JACK KNOWS PLENTY OF STORIES
it is always good to see him post,I hope we will be hearing
more from him
Vernon was indeed big and tough, but once you got to know him he was a pretty good guy
I once won a huge score playing bar pool,I won two new Triumph Bonnevilles and a payroll of over $10,000 at a time when this was real money
The owner was threatening not to provide the title to the bikes so I figured to sell them to Vernon
one was mine the other was Tony Abbott.he was with me when I won,we played golf together and were friends since high school so in the parking lot of the Cotton Palace we agreed to sell the bikes to Vernon
He gave Tony about $900 (which as i say was a lot of money) payment in full, then Tony got off his bike and onto the back of mine with me,Vernon then handed me $600 and said ,I will catch up with you on the other $300 soon.
So I gave the throttle to the bike and began to circle Vernon in the parking lot as he chased us on foot, saying come on Dean you know I am good for it
I said no pay no bike, call me when you have the $300,now no one had ever spoken to Vernon this way
and I was just a little guy compared to him, never accused of being tough or crazy as this episode suggest
Well after this he got the $300 and met me at my grandmothers house where i kept the motorcycle,
I was not allowed to have a motorcycle at my mom's house where i lived
Vernon paid,I collected and he reached out and patted me on the back saying"you got balls son"
I walked a little taller that day.
I have a few more of these that Jack will probably be surprised to hear,I was truly
sad to hear of Vernon's passing away,he ended up being a good friend
