Only on league night.....

Something to remember (and I have a lot of trouble with this one too) is you sometimes have to just let people save face and give their bad advice.

Being publicly corrected really gets people's hackles up. That's why some league players hate having a timeout called on them even though they know you're better... they feel like you're saying: "ok, you're about to do something wrong again, I'm gonna announce that to everyone, then swoop in and save you from your stupid self".

It's not rational but it's a real issue.

To you, the boyfriend is acting like king shit. To him, you're the guy acting like king shit. To the girl... well, she doesn't have much knowledge yet and as far as she knows, both guys are offering equally valid thoughts and maybe neither one is wrong. Or if one is wrong, she has no idea how to figure out which one.

whether it's one guy coaching another or two people coaching a third party, sometimes it's best to just pretend the other options presented are equally valid and then leave it up to the shooter to decide which one makes sense to them. If they have a mind for pool, they will probably figure it out via common sense. Eventually.

Boyfriend was already there playing. He was in a match. Plus I know the 2. I would say we were friends but its always friendly. So while she was waiting I asked her to bang balls around. It wasn't more than passing time really.

My league comment was a little touchy for you uh? It probably reminded you of of a friend of yours or something. I met the two when I was in a bar, spending money. I know I know what a shock for a pool player. When he approached me to play him. How could I not. It didn't take long to figure out what kind of player he was. He won most of the games that night as I didn't feel like putting my effort into it plus I was pretty drunk. The next night they came in for league in the pool room I play in. It was at that time I found out he was a leaguer and it all made sense. The lady wants to learn pool. She asks everyone, not just me. I'd have more respect for said bf if he wouldn't act as if he knows everything about pool as a 5, and stopped referenceing his skills as " just like archer" I only have a small amount of knowledge of this beautiful game and what I do know I like to share. She asks, I help. I tried once with him, but because he does it like archer, he didn't get it.

Classy or not, she wanted to play. I didn't go out of my way to.bring her to my table and show her the goods. She was already there checking them out!

Nothing says "hello" quite like nice cleavage. Ever notice the girls that have a face that would haunt a house, all have nice cleavage? The flat chested ones have all the brains and the ones with giant noses will put anything in their mouth. Keep an eye on your Kamui chalk.
LMFAO !!!! That made my day...hahahahah..reps to you sir.

No need to defend yourself. Some folks just like busting balls, and yanking your chain. Some just like to stir the pot to get a reaction....that's all it is.

Some times it seems like league player is posted on here as a bad thing. There are a lot of league players who play lights out, and leagues are one thing helping pool to survive. Thinking all league players are just bangers would be foolish.

When did I say all league players played bad? I know a few that play pretty sporty, but they played well before they played league. To think that all league players played bad would just be dumb on my part, and I don't make that mistake. It was one person I referred to who plays in the apa.

Leagues keep rooms alive? OK I can agree with that. I don't know how it works in other parts if the country but here the leaguers want a free drink while they play, the need multiple practice tables they don't pay for, and after they are done, want.free pool cause they played that night. All the while only play one night a week in what they call their home base. Yep sounds like they keep the room alive to me.

When you're done burying yourself, I'll let you use my shovel.

I hear Kmart has heart for sale, you should use some of the beer money your going to spend in league tonight and buy some. Only after you buy a plane ticket and come play me for 50.

Ill even buy you the shovel.

For some on here, they do look down on league players. That's ok as they are entitled to their opinions. I play league and could really care less if someone here, or anywhere, thinks that is a bad thing. And yes, to assume all league players are all the same, and that some don't play damn good, is certainly foolish.

League is a chance to get out of the house, have some drinks with friends, have a bunch of laughs and forget about the daily bullshit of life. My team has been together for a very long time. We not only play pool together, but we are actually good friends. We have a lot of laughs together, and go to Vegas every year to really have some laughs. Life is too short to take most folks seriously. You gotta remember most folks tear others down to make themselve APPEAR to be superior. That's my take. :)

I've known some that want free drinks and all that. The majority get, and are happy with, the league tables remaining open afterwards. Both my APA and BCA teams regularly drink(one place doesn't have much worthwhile food) and tip decently. The other night, one of the people on one of the four APA teams playing in the pool hall(an away team) tipped a freaking quarter on a $20+ tab. It was noted on their sportsmanship(with an explanation) as the L.O. is well aware that both the establishments and their employees are not there for the fun of it - especially when the leagues are already granted free table time for the night.

Our in-house BCA division has 16 teams.. that's 48 league players every Thursday. They also have league on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. There's also a 14.1 league. Good stuff, I tell ya.

I've seen dumb stuff happen with or without leagues..

LOL! That's great :-)

This thread has gotten way out of control and ill take some blame for that. In this thread I wasn't attacking the entire league community, just one player. I wanted to vent, vent to a place where pool players gather and.maybe could understand what I was saying. And yet, this has become a me vs you thread. Not what I wanted. If I wanted to really beat up the apa I could, but thats another thread for another time. It seems like anytime anyone who has grown frustrated with the league way of thinking, they get bashed. What you have to remember is this game has been around long before any league has. Yes I know it has done wonders for the game we all love. It has introduced the game to millions of people. Keeping bars alive. For me the bad far outweighs the good. My experience, nobody else's. I expressed my frustration, that is all.

No biggie, I just took it as the boyfriend's a tool. The girl, who was obviously quite a bit worse than he, at least appreciated your help and was able to put it to work a little.

Reminds me when I was fishing down on a little dock on a little river next to an old apartment. I was fishing between the dock and the bank, in a little channel that the fish liked to go through - the middle of the river was almost a guaranteed snag. A couple came down and started fishing, telling me how they go down there all the time.. I had never seen them before and I had been there often. Tried to poke fun at me, asking me what I was fishing for, turtles? So, after about an hour of me catching a couple bass, a few pikeminnow and whatever, them catching nothing.. they packed up and left.

Pool's no different than anything else.. and it can be more difficult to know sometimes, because everybody's got advice to give and for those that don't know it can be hard to tell which one is right.

So I normally try to avoid the poolroom on league night. I'd rather stick pens in my eye then to watch the guys play here. Anyway, there is this girl that comes and and just chats it up. She likes pool and if she practices a little more she wouldn't be all that bad. But the problem is her "pool player " boyfriend. She walks in and I ask her to hit a few balls. Naturally she says sure and I break'em up. I drop 4 and run out. She was like, "damn, how do you break like that?" So I said I'd show her. For me its simple. On the rail, second diamond, little bit of bottom center ball to center ball 3/4 speed. She tries if and well the results weren't what she was expecting. So I tweaked a few things. She stands so far away from the table and has such a long.bridge, she loses alot of her power on the break. Tweak 1. Stand closer to the table. Didn't change how she stood just stand closer. Tweak 2. Moved her bridge had to the rail, and moved her back hand forward on the cue. That's all. So she breaks and it was a little better. Awkward naturally. Second time a bit better, and so on. In all of 10 mins I have her making atleast 1 ball on the break and a nice little hop and stop in the center of the table. She's feeling good, I'm like damn she caught on quick. Then it goes down hill.
Here come.the leaguers to.mess it up. Someone tells her, oh I do this, that's what you should do. Then another and another. Then comes king shit Mr. "Pool player" boyfriend. He says oh do it this way. I break like archer kicking my leg up and everything! I chuckle a little bit, and politely say" but he knows how to break " apparently he didn't like that. He's all like let me try. So standing about a ft too far from the table he grabs my break cue, chalks up and breaks. The other leaguers are in the back like.yeah he's.gonna show him. He breaks, using top(smh ) makes 2, and has zero shot on the one ball. Horrible break I say. He'slike what are you talking about? I say" what do you mean, what am I talking about? How are gonna make the one?" He replies and this isn't a lie," doesn't matter, I made 2 balls." WTF????!!!!! Seriously? Who says that? Anyway, after they all step outside she comes up to me and says " thank-you for showing me a few things. I know you know what your talking about. " I had to laugh and just agree. Should I have expected anything else coming from a guy who's good cue is a Walmart graphite cue? Still shaking my head.

I bet I know some "leaguers" who can whoop your ass at pool

Atleast someone understood what I was saying.

Nice story about the fish btw.

I got why you were posting, but that is definitely not the vibe you're putting out. you clearly have some irrational hatred of leagues.

"can't stand to watch [league players] shoot"... "oh, here's comes the leaguers to mess everything up"...some guy acts like a tool and "I figure out he's a leaguer and suddenly it all makes sense".

Hell, even the word "leaguer" is full of haterade. I don't have a special word for league players because they're just pool players.

It sounds like the king shit boyfriend is better than you, and you're having a hard time swallowing that. He beat you the one time you guys played, and when you called him out to break, he dropped 2 balls. He didn't squat the cue ball apparently but you only gave him one shot at it, even the pros don't get a look at the 1 sometimes.

Honestly, you came off as the jerk when you said "horrible break", and you're not helping yourself when you say "the bad far outweighs the good" in leagues. I mean, are you nuts? What's "the bad"? Someone spent money to play in the league and didn't win it back? That's about the worst case scenario.
