Open Letter to Justin from TAR

Palmerfan,

You don't have enough posts to talk like that.

I have a hard time believing you were at Roseland in 2000 (as was I) - you are posting like a child.

Please respect the forums and the people in it.

Otherwise how do you expect anyone to respect you?

And you are trying to 'respect' the game?

Mark Griffin

BTW - I was at your avatar a couple days ago.

Mark I have been baited obviously to respond the way I have by the same troublemakers that do the hijacking time and time again on these threads. My original post was to get a response from the forum members about how they would feel about putting 14.1 in as a discipline in the TAR matches that you and Justin put on and removing maybe the 8 Ball matches to do that. Perhaps I went overboard with some of the posts today as it gets incredibly frustrating to be mocked and name called and simply sit back and watch it when my intent was to get opinions from pool fans.

I think before you post that I am a child or I am disrespecting the game.. (a game I happen to love) you might want to see what was written to me before I wrote what you seem to have a problem with, maybe then you wouldn't be coming at me the way you are. I am a 36 year old man, hardly a child and was certainly at the Roseland in 2000...as well as New Brunswick in 2011 and will be in Queens this year.

I think you're right as I should respect the forums and the people in it, I also feel that I should be treated with that same respect in return. If you felt I was out of line..which I was that is fine, I hope you hold the "Hijackers" and troublemakers to that same standard.

Glad to hear you were at Amsterdam the other day..hope you enjoyed it.

Palmerfan,
I'm a firm believer that everyone has a right to post their perspective regardless of post count but your pushing the envelope of good taste with some of your comments. Yesterday you posted your viewpoint without personal attacks...today not so much.

Nick

As I just wrote to Mark I was obviously baited to a level I don't normally go to by the same troublemakers well known on this forum. Yesterday I posted my viewpoint and received responses from people who agreed or disagreed with my opinion respectfully...today was attack me or mock my viewpoint day. I had the choice to ignore or reply..I chose reply.

Remember before the Dennis/SVB match when they played 8 ball that was streamed as a free preview to the upcoming weekend match?

Maybe Justin could do the same thing before one of these next two matches, except have the players play some 14.1 if they're up for it. Maybe a race to 100 for a steak dinner, or they can put up some cash if they want.

When you start calling JAM and Lou troublemakers, grouped together, then we know that something is up.

Collectively they have more experience in the pool world than you will ever dream of.

That doesn't make your opinions wrong. But it does make how you are treating them a bit on the distasteful side, especially coming from someone who purports to be a fan of the "higher art" of 14.1.

Back away from the keyboard, and check your perspective. Your passion for what you love in pool is fine, how you have handled yourself here recently, not so much....

She is a troll. She finds threads and posts grammar corrections to incite arguments for no reason. He posted a decent topic. It was worth a conversation. She trolled it as many others for no reason. People always post shit for no productive purpose other than to derail a thread for the intended reason. I did not spell out a players name all the way for action and she quickly corrected it. no reason at all. just post your pics and tell you old stories and stay out of threads you don't belong in.

You have no idea who I am..what I do..what i've accomplished or my "experience in the pool world"..so back away from your own keyboard and go defend your buddies on another thread. I just had to delete 11 PM's telling me the kind of trouble maker JAM was although I knew that before..just didn't know she was a girl..And the guy pretending to be the next Efren has been a joke on this forum for everyone to take shots at..look it up yourself and see what people write about "Lfig". This is a thread about getting 14.1 on TAR if possible..if you want to stir up crap go elsewhere. I'm done playing with the hijackers.

Don't bother even trying to argue with JAM. From what I've observed over the years, you might as well argue with a brick wall (that is always right). I don't have a dog in this fight, just adding my observations.

You seem to take issue with what I have posted to you. Contrary to popular belief, I am not a troll, and I have been posting on this forum for 10 years. I'm well aware that what a person writes in black and white can be misconstrued.

Your words to me, however, were sarcastic and rude. Whether I am female or male makes no difference.

As I wrote previously, we are all members of God's human family, capable of error in judgment. I'm going to chalk it up that you made an error in posting directly to me with your words, not realizing they were offensive, as did I in reply.

Have a great day.

Really? You're entitled to your opinion about me, but, thankfully, it can't, and won't, knock me down. FWIW, I will post about any damn thing I want. You won't dictate to me or anybody else what we can write about on this forum.

For starters, rather than attempt to write mean-spirited words to knock somebody down, why don't you stay out of threads calling people "trolls" who have been posting on this forum for years, contributing good pool content, giving away money to pool-related causes (BEF-$400 in 2011 and 2012, $200-charities), holding forum contests with cash and prizes, spend $2,000-plus to create and maintain a website for a murdered pool player named Mike Surber, sending FREE OF CHARGE 8-by-11 autographed photos to fans, give funds to pro players that can't afford to compete overseas, and in general trying to promote pool as often as possible from the comfort of my keyboard? This is a troll?

So what you have done for pool lately, Brendan Sulliva from St. Louis?

To return to the topic of the thread, most people I know think 14.1 (straight pool) is boring. They prefer the fast-pasted rotation games. Even one-pocket ranks higher than straight pool in most circles. Drive down South and visit the traditional pool rooms, the game that is played the most is one-hole, so there you have it.

Thats a pretty strong opinion with with no facts to back it up. I can tell you that when some guy takes his date to a pool hall and neither one of them know how to hold a cue, they are ALWAYS playing 8 ball... I dont think either one of them has any idea of TAR or know what a pool stream is

I haven't said anything bad about the game. I also love one-pocket and play it most days, but I also realize there aren't that many players who would pay to watch it. It is what it is.

I grew up playing snooker and I still play it. I guess that makes me a beginner.

Palmer...if you are feeling you are getting baited as a heads up you can put people on ignore. You won't see their posts in the thread unless someone else quotes a post of theirs in a reply.

Snooker does seem to have a much stronger following in Canada than the States.

When we do encounter a snooker table in our travels, most times the action players might attempt a ring game of one of the rotation games. Man, it sure is hard to run a ball up the rail of a snooker table.

The oldest pool room at one time in the country was in Tampa, Baker's, and they had a snooker table that was regularly used for action games, not snooker.

When you walk into pool rooms today, I don't see too many people playing straight pool. It is true that 8-ball seems to be the most popular game here in the States, FWIW. At least it is the one that most people are familiar with.

Whats funny, is as soon as I opened the thread and saw the comment about 14.1 under the OP screen name, I just knew this had to do with straight pool to JCIN.

If history is a teacher, back in the 50's when TV was black & White only. They tried Straight Pool on TV, with big national sponsors. It BOMBED.

Jen,

The snooker table at the LV Cue Club is used exclusively for "Golf". Usually action on it from 2 PM till 9 PM most days. Actually don't remember seeing a game of snooker ever being played on it. Of course I'm not there all the time.

I have found this to be an interesting thread not only as a way to gauge interest (if any) in having 14.1 featured in a TAR stream but also as a way of seeing which formats are popular.

On a purely personal interest level I was encouraged to see others share the interests in 8 Ball that I do. I think the overall response has been that 14.1 is a niche part of our sport and as such does not garner the support that would be needed to be streamed on PPV.

While we all have our preferences that we would like to see more of, 8 Ball and to a lesser extent Snooker are mine, there are some that others might like to also see more of that are not as spectator friendly as the rotation game (1 pocket, bank pool and 14.1) I think that we can all, or mostly, agree that any discipline played at the highest level has merit. However, that said, on a personal level as much as I love watching pool I would not pay to watch 14.1, 1 pocket or bank pool because I know that I would not last through the whole match.

What I also found interesting, and offer this as simply my opinion in the hope that it has an influence in terms of keeping posts on topic and positive, is the way this thread went off track. It is, after all, a fairly simple topic started by someone who would like to lobby support to have one of his favourite disciplines included in a very popular stream vehicle for pool enthusiasts, TAR.

When I go through the posts I think I see (and offer as my opinion only and meant to be non judgemental) what occurred and how people who seem to share a love for this game went from simple statements of opinions/preferences to intemperate remarks that became somewhat personal attacks.

Follow the string. It is obvious that the support that was hoped for is not there. On page 4 of the posts we see a subtle change, the few comments of support are welcomed by Palmerfan and he supports the idea of trying to pre sell an event and eagerly grasps the 14.1 is alive and well in Europe comment.

However, when Ghosst gives an opinion in support of 8 ball indicating that 14.1 players he knows would not pay for and have never heard of TAR, this opinion offered in a straightforward, non aggressive manner gets a response that I would not have expected from Palmerfan. Palmerfan decides to attack the opinion in general and 8 ball players in particular. This seems out of character in respect of all of the other respectful responses from him previously.

It is interesting to note that in between the aforementioned Ghosst post and Palmerfans reply was a post from JAM with the inference that the banner on Palmerfans posts is a “Banner for Charlie’s tournament” . (As a side note I wonder what her point was as it should be obvious that a fan of 14.1 of his magnitude would, of course, be supporting a world 14.1 event). At any rate, it all went downhill from there. Palmerfan corrects the grammar in JAMs post and the string deteriorates.

One might wonder if the frustration of not getting the support for something you are passionate about was set off by a perceived accusation from JAM (I say perceived because I still do not know what the point was) that there was some kind of agenda of supporting the world tournament and this caused an uncharacteristic reply to the opinion given by Ghosst. (respect, Ghosst, for not getting pulled into it and keeping your posts positive)

And all this just to say that I believe we are all kindred spirits in our love of pool and while we may differ in opinions on a great variety of subjects that enter in this I think we should remember that persons of good will can do so respectfully and I would once more, respectfully, like to ask for more 8 ball matches.

Honestly not trying to sound naive but I figured its pretty obvious I'm a 14.1 fan and I would like to see if there were a way to get more access to the game stream wise. I thought posting a thread would get a feel of whether or not people would pay to view it rather then 8 Ball in an All Around and maybe TAR would consider it in some of their matches if the players fit. I don't think that's a controversial post. I also know that sometimes topics veer off into strange places...but a few posts came at me directly with name calling and mocking and I could have easily taken the "high road" and laughed it off but being irritated chose not to...right or wrong, and took some heat for it as well.

I'm done engaging in anything off topic on this thread or any other, so in my opinion its over. But appreciate the advice Spimp13.

Appreciate the post and agree with almost everything you say..except the part about where the thread took a turn or in my opinion I took some things personally. I was fine with what Ghost wrote and simply disagreed with the opinion..didn't think I replied aggressively at all on that post..maybe some sarcasm but certainly not looking to go off topic in some back and forth nonsense. It was the other posts, one you referenced and one you missed that were sent to me completely off topic..and mocking me openly.

I've met Charlie Williams once in my life for 2 minutes, congratulated him on his tournament and that was it...so people trying to mock CW means nothing to me, couldn't care less. But I love the 14.1 Tourney whether Charlie runs it, Justin runs it, Behrman runs it...or you run it. That's what I do support, as well as more 14.1 streamed and I would like to see more of it streamed if it made sense to TAR financially. And if anyone feels offended by what I wrote I apologize. From now on I am staying on topic in this or any other post.

Wow! That's a pretty cool link of Lou playing straight pool, with Blackjack (Dave Sapolis) commentating. Good find! :)

You've now given me a reason to quit work for the rest of the day. I have a funeral to go to at 6 p.m., and after hanging out on this forum this morning, well, you can stick a fork in me now. No more work. I'm done! :grin-square:

Dave is pretty doggone good commentating.
