Purdman here. Guys, I don't like to gamble. Just ain't my cup of tea. I have money and security. There is an AZ'er that keeps trying to get my action. I have finally agreed to give it to him. I made this suggestion. I want to meet him in a mutual pool hall. 1 hour away from both of us. I want to meet him at 12 noon on Saturday. I offered to play 10 $25 racks of 9 ball and 10 $25 racks of 8 ball. I also stipulated that we come alone.
How do you guys feel about this game. Am I asking too much?
Thanks, Purdman:eek:

So he's on your case trying to get you to gamble even though you don't like to, and you offer him an even game with some stipulations in place to avoid any shenanigans? Sounds damn fair. It's "put up or shut up" time for your opponent.

Well for someone that doesn't like to gamble, $25 a rack is expensive pool(for some). I think you're being more than fair.

"Too much"? As in too much money? While you could view it as 5 bills on the line, which would be a lot, if the matchup is remotely fair then it seems pretty unlikely that more than two bills change hands. So I'd say it's not too much.

But why 1 hour away from both? That suggest you live two hours apart, which I don't think is the case. Why not somewhere in between (like DC, so I can take on the winner)?

Yeah, sounds fair to me considering you dont like to gamble. Sounds expensive too. Id feel better just playing 2 races to 5 for 25 bucks each in each game rather then 25 a rack.

Im small time. LOL. Good luck, let me know how you do. I was gonna PM you to see if you wanted to hit some balls around this weekend to since I had to keep putting it off the last 3 weekends, but according to the stipulations (come alone) maybe we should put if off until next weekend.

I am just waiting to hear back from him. He didn't sound to happy about the Frederick, MD. idea. If it falls thru, I will meet you and bring the Break Rak for you to borrow.

He was talking about $2000 to $8000 yesterday. $500 is cheep in that league. He got my goat. He told me I played at a beginner level. I been playing since I was 11 years old. I am 56 now. I was a BCA certified instructor for 5 years. DO NOT call me a beginner. $500 is not a problem.

If you don't like to gamble, then don't! At your age and with your credentials, you have nothing to prove to anybody.

I am slightly older than you and I quit gambling on pool 20 years ago. I routinely turn down money games just because it's something I don't need to satisfy me any more.

I play just because I love to play.

Dude, I never called you a begginer in any way shape or form. All I said was for some people $25 a rack is expensive pool. I don't have that kind of money to throw away on 1 game. But that's just me. I really didn't mean to offend you.

I think Purd's comment was directed at his challenger who called him a beginner, not to you, who simply said, correctly, that $25/rack is pretty steep for many people.

Yeah I just suffered one of those type before you read moments. :D

I honestly appriciate all of your opinions and support. I have not been offended at all. Yeah, $25 a rack is a little steep, but I don't gamble. Hell, if I lost the whole $500, that breaks down to $1.36 a day for a year. I spend more than that on 1 shrimp or 1 crab or 1 beer or 1 hot dog. See what I mean, it really ain't nothing to worry about. Now if I was gambling $500 a day or week, that would be different. Thanks again, I will let ya all know if my fish takes the bait.

My suggestion is don't show up. It appears that you've been pressured into a game you don't wish to play through some mild on-line harrassment.

That's not what this forum is for, and if you make a statement by backing out of this game, perhaps it will send the right message to those that think AZB is here for them to solicit action through on-line woofing directed at other AZB members.

Pokerhammer saw on-line woofing to attract action as AZB's raison d'etre, too, and I certainly won't miss his posts.

Would call this the high road sjm? I hear ya buddy! Then I would have to listen to him call me a nit again. He has implied as much already. I got a game boss. It ain't to shabby either.

If you want to gamble with this guy, by all means gamble. However, I don't believe you should gamble, just because he got your goat. JMHO.

When I returned to pool, after a lay off of many years, I decided I wasn't going to gamble. Gambling takes a lot of the fun out of the game and makes it more of a job. JMO.

I also don't think your stipulations are bad. After all, he is the one who wants your action. If you give it to him, it should be on your terms.

If you decide to gamble with him, I hope you kick his butt, so he will learn to leave someone alone, when they say they don't gamble. :D
Not being a gambler, doesn't mean you are not a player. :D

Bust him

Bust his a** Purdman he sounds like a chump to me.:D
You know I understand what SJM is saying, But sometimes it just feels good to get down and dirty. Purdman when you bust him look him strate in the eye and say " It's like a nightmare isn't it":D
