Opinions on this Meucci

I know nothing of Meucci cues, but am thinking of buying this one.

Does anyone have any opinion on these cues? I know there's a lot of discontent about build quality on ore recent models etc, but I'm probably more interested in how they play, what the hit is like etc.

Meucci cues have a unique hit..personally, I think they're weak.
But there are a lot of loyal Meucci owners...it works for them.
..so, try to find a Meucci owner and hit a few...you'll either like it
or hate it.

I can empathize with Meucci owners...I'm loyal to Dodge products...
..I don't think they're the best, but I know what they do

Thanks, but I'm buying blind here. I did get to shoot a couple of shots with one recently, but that was with a 314 shaft, and the one I'm thinking of buying has a black dot.

One more thing: I see they're described as 'whippy'. Until i was thinking of buying one, I thought I knew what this meant. Now I'm not so sure. So what does it mean?

Good Luck in your purchase of a Cue. I've been playing for 50 years & I prefer to play a little bit with a Cue, before I buy it. There are lots of things that cause a cue to play well >>>> weight, balance, ferrule, tip & shaft to name a few.

You'll learn soon enough... Pssst, we all learn by doing.

Its good

Its good, if you like the feel of the cue.The meuci has a week hit and it is practically still a good cue,Although if i were you i either go fore the Mcdermot or the Schon, but dont sweat it the Meuci is good to.If i were you i get the one with in the $500.00 range, if you are going to buy a Meuci.

Quality control has been all over the place with Meucci. I had one that was total crap. The one I currently have is actually pretty good.

I've used them with red dot shafts, black dot shafts, and with a Predator 314-2 shaft. All of them are only 12.75mm, and that may contribute to the "whippy" feeling. The black dot and Predator both feel stiffer than the red dot, to me. But, none of them are as stiff as my daily playing cue, which is a Keith Josey. Frankly, I'm OK with any of them, as I seem to adjust to any cue, pretty quickly. I can adjust to a house cue pretty easily, too.

Ultimately, I think you will have to try it, to see if you like it.

Good luck!

'Whippy' would be the description of the original shafts.
I test a cue by holding my right hand where I would normally hold it
to shoot....with my left hand I hit the forearm about 6 in from the joint.
I want to see flexibility in the shaft...but I want it to whip quick and short.
If you do this to a Meucci....it whips long and slow....but some people like
that....I think the way Reyes plays suits a Meucci.
I like a stronger hit...but my game is 'snookerish'.

...don't know much about red or black dot shafts

Well

Not only for this poster but many posters.

The price of used custom cues are at all time lows. You can get a great custom cue are a price that would be similar to a production cue.

I recommend adding a few hundred and get a custom cue.

No, I dont have any for sale, but if you would like some specific recommendations, PM me.

I have a newer style meucci and it seldom leaves the case. I don't like the hit. To me it feels like plastic and very undefined. I know that's an extremely subjective thing, but it just does not feel good to me. IMO mcdermott>meucci

The soft ferrule, plastic joint, low density maple, and long thin taper used on the shaft tend to make Meucci's play soft and flexible. Some people find they play well with this sort of cue. I kind of liked them at first, but over time preferred a stiffer, firmer hitting cue.

The plastics used tend to make the cue easier to break. Meucci's have had more than their share of problems with warp - a risk to consider when buying a new cue.

I have played Meucci's for many years and liked them, (the older ones). I recently bought a Road Agent and was amazed when I took it out of the clear plastic bag when a bunch of sawdust came out also. The cue hit like Sh.t also. Good Luck.

I own 2 Meucci's (older ones) and had a newer one and quickly got rid of it. It was pure junk.

I agree with Ken, save up another 100-200 bucks and buy a custom. You wont regret it and it will long outlast a new Meucci.

I think Powerlifter hit it on the head too about the new Meucci's.

Stay away or buy another cue. For the price of the cue you want plus a 314 you can buy a custom.

I have yet to shoot a black dot or red dot that I like.

My wife bought a Meucci Century 21 #3 by mail order and we returned it immediately as the inlays were lifting out.

I agree with most of what is said above. But if adding money/saving up more isn't in the cards and you want a cue in that price range, go look at some JOSS cues. Just my opinion.

Heck, for that money, you can get a vintage cue that's a real player. A 20-30 year old Meucci Original, D series McDertmott, or even an old Huebler can be had in beautiful condition. You would be hard pressed to beat the value or playability of such a cue. I don't know why more people don't consider such a purchase. Yes, yes, I know, they are "old school", not "LD" or laminated. So what? They are seriously great playing cues. Personally, I would go for the McDermott. I would say JOSS but the prices for JOSS of that era are pretty strong, though you could get very lucky I wouldn't count on it.

Old wood. Try some, you might like it. :)

I bought a Meucci Road Agent many years ago... I ordered it and waited patiently for it to be delivered to the pool room I worked at... I was walking on air when the delivery was made... I opened the package and marveled at my new purchase all day waiting on a chance to play with it.....

When my shift ended I grabbed a set of balls and headed out to one of the 9footers..... 3 hours later I had sold it for what I had in it.. I got it for cost as an employee...... 2 days later the guy I sold it to sold it and it changed hands about 8 times over the next month... It played like total crap... You ever hear of a Meucci that didn't spin the ball??? I hadn't until then.....

That purchase taught me to never ever buy a cue without being able to try it... I have had more than a few meuccis over the years and played for 4-5 years with a gambler.... So I knew what to expect.....

I know some retailers now offer a trial/return period so if you don't like it you can send it back.. I would look for and order from one of them even if it's a few extra bucks.......
