Opinions or insights on Dale Perry cues?

I agree with everything said. Dale Perry has screwed his own market up. He is now known as a production 1 of 1 cue maker and not a true custom cue maker. He screwed all of his dealers and now nobody will sell his cues for him so he has to continue to sell on Ebay to make a living.

or is it..........

Or did you mean buy high and sell higher?...................lol:mad: To think of all the cues and the prices that I have not paid over the years because I felt the prices have met an all time high.

..a few years back, I wanted to become a Dale Perry dealer, so while I was in Las Vegas for Nationals, I sat down and talked with him about it. I decided to become a dealer and we drew up 6 cue designs for the required initial investment required to deal his cues.

I received the cues over the next several months and was quite excited about them. I sold one very nice 1 of 1 cue to a young customer in the pool room. It was a $1500 cue, and I cut him a deal and sold it to him for $1200. About a month later, he came to me and said he saw the identical cue for sale by Dale Perry on Ebay, and that it went for $450, so he wanted to know what the deal was. I had no answer.

If I had placed the order for the cue from Dale as a dealer, my cost would have been much more than the $450 that he sold the cue directly to the Ebay customer for. That is when I decided being a DP dealer was not for me. This same scenario played out with several other dealers that I have spoken to.

Ouch, that's really awful. There were many in Japan that paid $2,000 plus for one then they saw them selling on E-Bay here for $400. Of course, it still proved to be a better investment than their own stock market! ;)

Dale Perry used to be a fantastic cue maker before he went "production". The "hit" is just fine. and the quality of workmanship is OK, not great, but OK.

Back 10 years ago or more, I would put his cues up against anybody's. However, now he is able to do cookie-cutter layouts and pumps them out like Mcdonalds hamburgers. The have 0 collectability. But they serve as a decent player.

Doug

When I knew nothing about custom cues, I discovered Dale Perry on Ebay and saw some beautiful cues going at reasonable prices. What really got me was the listing wherein Dale stated "Dealer price is $1699." I called him up about a certain cue that was listed and he said that he would build a $1699 cue for me for $850 but I could probably buy it for less on Ebay. So here goes stupid me bidding on for a cue where BIDDERS IDENTITIES ARE HIDDEN so nobody knows who is bidding for the cue - guess what - thinking I was going to buy an $850 or a $1699 cue for less, the bidding was at $450 with 10 minutes to go, but I put a top bid in at $725, and wouldn't you know it - I won the auction - FOR $700, more than $200 more than any Dale Perry had sold for in the last 2 weeks. I have always harbored the feeling that someone, no names mentioned, knowing that some sucker, namely me, was out there and would pay up - so some PRIVATE HIDDEN IDENTITY BIDDER bid against me knowing roughly how far I would go.

well bob, I hope you find Quality cues that you enjoy and will be able to move later at a better price than what you paid for them!

i think the reason dales are 1/1's because he truley profected the art of drawing the 1/1 on a cue.. well. he does get alot of practice...
