This is my first thread so bear with me please. I've found a cue on ebay that I really like but have never heard of the cuemaker. If anyone has one or has an opinion, would you please post for me. Thank you so much!

Welcome aboard. I would do a lot of reading on this forum before buying a cue. You can use the search function to look for different price ranges and makers. Buying a cue can be as tough or as easy as you make it. I would recommend setting a price range and then getting a list together.

The Shurtz folks seem to be making a great entry level cue.

yep!

Yep...I agree with this statement. Since I was unable to sell mine, only due to wanting to try it out, I'm having a leather wrap put onto mine so I can use it...The linen is too slick for me. Good luck with your search!!

Audrick is a cuemaker in the Phillipines, don't know much about his quality or playability. Do know that $50 shipping is pretty steep...:p

risk/benefit

There are several risks involved. First. it is illegal to import the ivory into the US so if customs happens to check the package your cue is gone. The second risk is that you are bringing the cue into a totally different climate than it was made in. This may lead to warpage or other problems. There is also much more risk of the maker using "green" ivory than there would be if the maker was in the US, which could lead to problems with the joint and ivory ferule.

Balance these things against his e-bay points and many happy buyers with only one neutral comment and no negatives. He has been on e-bay at some level since 2003 and keeping buyers happy. A similar cue from most US makers would be in the thousands.

The call is yours to make.

A local player in my area has purchased a few different cues from different Phillipino makers. Of the group, Audrick was the lowest quality. Good looking, at a distance, but the hit was real hollow and resonant, like something was loose. After many e-mails, the makr agreed to give a partial refund, conditional on the buyer leaving only positive feedback. I have seen quite a few of the cues from these makes myself, and honestly, they are pretty nice looking, but I believe these to be cues built on aesthetic value only, not playability. I must state that this my opinion, and of course is a subjective view.

Thanks

Thank you all for your comments. In reading them I think I'll look further and not just bid on something I think is pretty. I currently shoot with a meucci se14 which I absolutely love but was looking at something I could switch off on every now and then.

Again, thanks to all.
