Ok I play on a diamond pro am in a garage almost daily. You need to know this fact before I begin my story. I went to phoenix this last weekend for Fast Lenny's christmas round robin. I split for first, ended up being 265$. We started at noon and got finished at about 8:30 played races to 7 on bar boxes, 10 ball. Being it was a round robin I played everybody. Well one indidvidual that I beat in the tournament 7-1, put up an offer that she would play anyone who one the tournament for what they won. When i heard this I thought I should try it. So they have a diamond pro am just like the one I play on reguarly and thats what we agreed to play on. I had a bye the last round of the tournie so she played while I got something to eat, salad with chicken, not to heavy right? Well after the tournie we do a race to 11 , nine ball, for the 265$, I was confident that I had this in the bag. Well need less to say I felt like those pockets looked tiny. I scratched on a nine ball, bobbled another, missed two three ball outs. It made me sick to my stomach. On top of it she stepped up her game and didn't miss a bank.

Well my question is this, do all of you think the reason I viewed the pockets smaller than normal was because I just got done playing on bar boxes, or because I practice in small garage on a proam as opposed to a large pool hall? Think about the spatial relationship before you answer. Also you could just say I dogged it or was tired from playing all day and uncomfortable from just eating. I honestly think it was a combonation of all these things. Yet, it got me thinking about the difference from a garage to a large pool room.

Is there an optical illusion playing in a smaller room as opposed to larger pool room when playin on the same equipment.

Also that felt on the pro am in the pool room was nasty, definately needs to be refelted. I think this made the pockets play a hair tougher then the other table.

I think you pretty much hit all the points.

1. In your garage you are in your comfort zone, your radio, nice shiny balls, clean cloth, no distractions. The pool room has lots of distractions, dirty old cloth etc.
2. The effects of number 1 made you dog it.

BTW dirty old cloth will DEF snug up those Diamond pockets.

too many things

Too many variables to consider all of them, that is why you play the game! The lady took a move from Fat's playbook, let somebody else do all the work winning the tourney and then you only have to take the money from one player. Aside from all the things affecting your game, I suspect she was much more comfortable gambling. Tournaments were always a one shot deal in my mind, all that mattered was how I did in this one. Gambling was a rolling count, if I lose today, I won yesterday and I'll win again tomorrow. Far less pressure on me gambling.

One thing I always try to say to myself when I don't do well on the equipment or if it's dirty, tight pockets etc.. We are both playing on the same table, both have to adjust. You certainly have to be in stroke to get out regularly on a Diamon Pro.. Better luck next time.

Your dept perception can definately change. All things considered. You set yourself up for defeat. Stop living on the hill. Get yourself over the hill.

She didn't hustle me hu. I beat myself, plain and simple.

I was there and watched it, you did beat yourself my friend. I know you play better and IMO thought you would win easily as I have played her and won and am not a 9 ball player and feel you play that game better then me. You hung one 9, scratched on two other 9 balls and did not get out with BIH with 3 balls on the table twice, big swing with the final score being 11-6, those games would have you winning 11-6.

I do think that Diamond plays tighter, I played on the ones at Sweet Tooth and they played looser IMO. One thing about your opponent though, she has more heart then majority of players in our state, believe that.
