ORCOLLO vs HERNANDEZ action at MASTERS

Orcullo, I believe. This morning, someone asked if he was coming back tonight and he said yes; to play The Mexican at 11pm.

It will be interesting, beacuse Chavez watched the match between Orcullo and Frankie Hernandez. He probably knows a lot more of Orcullo's game than Orcullos knows of his. This may give Chavez an edge (in addition to being a monster player himself). Chavez will definitely have the saftey advantage. Cue control is even between them, with a slight edge to Chavez. Orcullo edges out Chavez in pure pocketing ability, though. Should be a great tactical match.

Jay,
I am talking about `A` and `Bottom pro s ` that need wild 5 to match up with pinoys`.some experts think that the effects of handicap shows up with 5 ball.

If you mean giving players who play Frankies speed the 5 ball, then I agree. No one plays that good. Not Dennis, Corteza, Alex or YANG!

When these great players start giving up the 5 ball to other pros, I'm betting with the underdog. It's just too much weight to carry, even for a thoroughbred.

wow how could some not know who Orcollo is?? obviously with the weight he was giving he wasnt no shortstop...do they not follow the pro tour even just a teeny weeny bit, or just any type of pool news???

Older crowd, less internet-savvy.

On top of that, Orcullo is still pretty new to the US. He only got his papers what... a year or two ago, to come play in the US? And when he's been here, he's most of a West Coast name (Reno Open, Hardtimes jamborees, etc.).

But it also seems that the pool hall rats in NYC only know the East Coast players. They know the Efrens, Stricklands, Souquets of the world. But anyone not know for a few years they seem slow to find out about. I was pretty astonished myself that he was unknown amongst these guys (tho I guarantee you Frankie knew who he was).

Are they supposed to be playing even? If so, where do I send my money to bet on this one? Should be a rout I would think.............

Steve, this Chavez guy, is he a former billiards player? 3-cushion or straight billiards?

Jay,
that is my point.Pinoys can give 6 or 7 or 8 and manage to win but not by giving 5 and they know it.This is where the art of negotiations come in and u know it and you are expert at it.

I forgot your date of birth and it should be around this time.when is it?

I was surprised that Mr. Hernandez would want to play an upper world class player, especially of the pinoy persuasion, being known for great gambling and catching fire when money is on the line. I saw him play all day at one of the IPT qualifiers, he plays good, but the house pro did better then him in the tourney. And when you watch someone "good" play, then you see orcullo, kiamco play you realize that good just doesn't cut it, you have to be great!

If it's on a bar table, I'm not sure sure anyone is supposed to rout Chavez... Hasn't he won the national bar table championships multiple times? :D

Orcollo

Chavez should be getting the same handicap Frankie got, the 6 ball. The bar table is not his best game, T-Rex beat him out of a handsome sum on the bar table in Valley Forge. He plays a sporty 3-cushion game. His best game is what he is playing tonight, 10-ball on the big table with tight pockets.

I can't confirm, but it would seem so.

He has the fundamentals of a 3-cushion/pool player hybrid. If you look at a guy like Shin Park, he's clearly a 3C player. Chavez is hard to pin down, but once you start paying attention to his kicking skills (esp. kicking safe) and position play, you have to admit he's played a good deal of 3C in his day. Besides, all the Mexican giants seem to have great 3C skills (Ernesto, e.g.)

Just received a correction: Kiamco will be playing Chavez ("The Mexican" as he's known around here).

Kiamco played Shin Park 3 sets in the past two days, and beat him every set. Twice last night, he gave Park the 9-ball (game was 10-ball) and won the cash. For those not familiar with Park, he's a hell of a player in the NE. He used to play on the San Miguel Tour in Asia, and in 2003 placed 5th in the World Pool Championships held in Cardiff.

I've kind of developed a soft spot in my heart for Frankie. His demeanor at every tournament is always the same, with that trademark Chestshire Cat grin on his face. Whether he's dressed in a T-shirt and shorts or slacks and a long-sleeved shirt, he's got a sense of style about him, all the way down to his manicured nails. Must be a Yankee thing because I haven't seen very many Southern men with polished nails and perfect eyebrows.

Having said that, though, Frankie is a man of action, and at just about every event I have attended, he has never been afraid to step up to the plate and play some. You gotta love him for his gamble! It's thrilling to watch, speaking as a professional railbird! :D

JAM

That's cause they don't come out in public much;)

I don't think Frankie was out of line at all! You don't have to be a personal admirer of his to acknowledge that he is no slouch when it comes to catching a gear for the cheese. After all, at one point he was up 12 games in the 15-ahead set. The problem is that I don't think his cue ball control, table management skills and temperament are suited to the requirements of 10-ball. I can tell you this--if the game was 9-ball, where Frankie's break could really come into play, that kind of weight would break Dennis' back!

soory to sound like a thick ex snooker playing brit but what do you mean when you say "give him the 6" does he not have to pot it or only pot upto it ?????

He wins if he legally pots the 6ball or the 10 ball. This is a pretty strong handicap since the player getting such only needs to runout 6 balls to win unless his opponent broke and pocketed the 6. If the opponent did, legally pocket the 6, then the player getting the handicap also only has the 10 to win.

Kiamco giving weight to Park and still wins? Are only Filipinos give weights? Or maybe a good question is, are there any Filipino players who has received weights from any player?
