Original Willie Hoppe Cue For Sale

Sorry I just had to go on a little red rep run there.

His comments have just gone to show how much he actually knows about early wood.

I have one thing to say

Mr. Hoppe, also take a look at the Shaft Pilot, it certainly is also not from a Hoppe cue it's totally Modern.

You're right Craig. The original shafts on these are rarely straight after 50-60 years, so someone has had a nice new one made to bring new life to this classic full-spliced beauty.

question

I have a question that I hope will educate myself in these older cues. First is the pilot on the shaft, on the original shaft where they all wood? Second is the length of the ferrule. What was the original length? I thought .75 inches or at most one inch.

Thanks for answering my questions in advance.

Disclaimer: - I'm not Mr Hoppe, but I play him on TV

Ferrule first - the orig ferrules were - IIRC no more than 3/4 inch,
maybe even a bit less. They were also 2 colors<parte> a white bottom
section aprox 1/2 inch in length - topped by a black 'cap'.

The shaft insert didn't have the shoulder like the one in the pic.
They were just a 7/16 inch 'tube', threaded on the inside and outside.

The insert was driven in till recessed inside the wooden tenon on the
shaft - it wasn't visible viewed from the side.
This method was used by Rambow and Balabushka.

The piloting on the shaft looks identical to my Carolina Custom Cue. Either way, it's a really nice looking cue though.
