Anybody have any info on Oroville tournament? Or where it may be posted? Thanks!

Only thing I know is that Mike (my husband) won his first match at 3:00 against some kid from Ohio. I just talked to Mike's sister who drove out to watch. She doesn't shoot pool. I don't even know the score, but she did know he made three 9's on the break. ;)

Glen Atwell, his traveling partner played at 7 tonight and I don't have any word on it yet. I left a message for the promoter (a personal friend) to call me with updates and highlights.

Well, I finally talked to Mike today and he said he actually popped in FIVE 9's in his first set and plays Amar Kang at 7. If he wins that one, it is King Kong, and if he gets by that one, it is Orcollo!!! He is in double tough...and they are on the tiny 7 footers.

Glenn won his match. How is Gabe doing?

I don't know how Gabe is doing, so I depend on people like you and AZB to keep me up with how everyone is doing. Who all is playing in it, that you know of?
Thanks!

I think that's a very good idea, :) I'll tug that ear next time I see him! In the meanwhile I'll watch the postings til I talk to him sometime this week, which will probably be when it's already over.

It is hard to get any cell phone reception in the Gold Country Casino area (I have t-mobile), so for folks who have been trying to call somebody in there, goodluck. I am going to try to get some info tonight when I go there, I also doubt it if there is any wireless internet connection there, I was thinking of bringing my notebook inside and do live postings. Jose Parica and Corel Dueul play at &pm tonight.

I don't know anything about his matches yesterday, but I Gabe and Corey seems to be having a hard time on which dish to get when they were having lunch over at the buffet restaurant. :)

I talked to his sister again. I have been traveling and have not had the chance to talk to Mike. And the TD has not returned my calls. Mike lost to Amar, whom he beat easily up here. His brother came and was talking loud and distracting him. He was supposed to play at 10 am this morning, but we don't know how that went yet. He does get looser on the B side...I am just the opposite.

Glen has won all 3 of his matches so far. Will give more updates as I get them. I am still trying to get updates on Gabe too. :)

There's no landline in the room and no cell reception. The TD did call me and said it was a poor turnout - 155 players in singles and only 44 teams. :(

Mike is still in, Corey Deuel is out. Gabe is still in, but on the B side. Archer, Parica and Orcollo are still on the winner's. And I think Atwell is still on the winner's too.

Tom said he would know more tomorrow night, when things quiet down for him. ;)

Thanks for the update, rackmsucker!
How many were they hoping to get to the tournament?

They were taking entries all the way to the end. They were hoping for at least 256 in the singles and 100 or so teams. Timing was wrong with DCC and IPT Q's so close.

Mike called me and said he lost hill-hill to Amar - broke and hung the 9 and nothing went, so Amar made a 2/9 combo. Then he won one 9-1 and lost to a Phillipino. On 2 of his breaks he came up dry and the guy was up 6-0 in no time. Mike got to 4. :(

Atwell is still on the winner's side.

On the plus side, Mike threw a team together while he was down there and they won their first match.

I got this sweet email from Austin's dad:

Linda,

Just thought I'd say hello and let you know how Austin Murphy is doing in Oroville.

Austin won his first 2 on the winner's side before being bumped to the one loss side. He's won 2 matches today and is now in the final 48 players.

He plays his next match at 8:00pm tonight and if he wins he plays again at 11:30pm. That's past his bedtime.

Anyway, just thought I'd email to say hello.

Austin's Dad.....Mark Murphy

I just got back from Oroville a little while ago, I'd been there since Tuesday...Gabe is still on the winners side, IIRC. Other notables still there are Atwell, Archer, Parica, JJ Cain, Durbin, Orcollo and some others that I'm too tired to remember. Oh yeah, Charley Bryant is still on the winners side, my buddy bought him in the calcutta. Amar was still winning when I left. The losers side is full of talent, a guy from my town beat Chohan last night and Chris MacDonald today. My buddy Tinsley put out Stan T from Canada and another friend from Modesto, Paul Juarez beat Tang Hoa on the hill in the losers side, snapping the nine in! Kim Davenport was in the losers side when I left.

There was lots of action...Tony Chohan giving Justin Whitehead the 7 ball for a dime a set, they split sets by taking turns steamrolling each other...Lots was bet on the rail for that one. I got to see Morro and Galindo play Durbin and some guy partners nine ball, scotch doubles, hundred a man...Morro and team won 1400 pretty quickly, and then Morro beat Durbin out of another thousand or so playing heads up...Durbin has a stake horse running around the place trying to bark up action. I had to laugh to myself when Durbin was talking the stakehorse into the game with Morro. I hear Durbin tell him that Morro "can't beat anybody"...You don't have to be from SoCal to know that's not true. But don't get me wrong about Durbin, that guy is just ruthless on the table, maybe he is the best like his stakehorse keeps saying, but when Archer and Davenport walked through the room, ALL barking ceased. Justin Bergman offered Whitehead the 8, I like Whitehead in this game, that guy has a high high gear. Nick Krueger was there, playing well. A couple of Europeans were there that played lights out, I don't remember their names I heard they were Pollocks or something like that. Cherwyck was there, he won hill hill against Rachel Abinik, female pool needs more like her that's for sure;) , what a hottie. Old Ronnie Allen was there, mostly at the bar, and ended up pitching a fit about something and going home. Johnny Archer got his AAA1010 beat by an AAAKK and got a couple thousand in the bad beat jackpot at the poker room there, some guys have all the luck! Oh yeah and my J4 offsuit beat Nick Kruegers KK and then my q7 offsuit beat his AA in a 4-8 holdem game...Feel the pain Canada! King Kong was in constant 50 a rack action, he's tough to beat that's for sure. Gerardo Jamito was there, lost 9 to 7 to Durbin the winners side. My dad, who plays jam up on a barbox lost 9-6 to Orcullo and 9 - 7 to Stan T. I got bounced by a guy named Wortiman from the Seattle area, a tough old guy that was very gracious as he spanked me. Danny Medina was there, another victim of Durbin. Corey was either out or in the B side, I don't remember. Ernesto Dominguez was still grinding. Richie Rich was there. They announced over the PA system for the pool players to please stop smoking bud in their rooms apparently housekeeping was noticing a distinct odor coming from the pool players block! Isn't it legal on Indian reservations?

My pick to win it all? Orcullo looked stron strong strong and you can never count out Archer. Durbin is all the rage, if you believe the hype. Amar is a sleeper, watch out. With Davenport on the B side I have to go with Charley Bryant or Gabe and the answer is..........Gabe. I haven't really seen him miss too much and I was there for 5 days, plus he's got that hollywood hairdo going on and it just might be enough to put him over the top. My town of Modesto still has three left in the final 32, Jeff Gayle, Paul Juarez and Kim Davenport, they're fighting it out on the B side.

God I'm tired. The team event was just starting when I left. More on that later but I'm beat. Goodnight AZ, that's the report from here...........Marc
