OTLB Rail extension

Not bad John, but you're going to have to work a little more on your stretching of the cloth in the corner pockets, as what you showed here in this picture is going to have puckers showing up under the rails in the pockets in a little while;) but, your extensions I guess can be a cheap alternative to doing the full job of sub-rail extensions and cushion replacement:D it's just not something I'd do personally;)

Glen

This job is as good or better as a full rail ext done by anyone. Yeah it doesn' t look as good with the cloth off but with it on you can't tell the dif either way. Cost to Me $5, I charged my customer $50. MY work doesn't pucker as much as you might like it to. If anything I have done so far would pucker, it would be my snooker table work on my GCV, sorry it still looks great.

Of course if a customer wants Artemis or whatever then you need to change rubber and do full blown. If not, why rob them when?? If you have a little talent you can provide them with the SAME result for way less money. Anybody can put on new rubber, this takes a bit more skill but still easy. Never said anyone had to do it this way as the title of the thread was OTLB ext's. This is the first time this has been done this way but not the last. This time I also used tape in the pockets and one side of the table in conjunction with tac strips. No bandaids lining my pockets and they look fine, cloth is tighter than hell, slate seams are perfect as they are on my table.

Actually this was a rare time where I was satisfied with the job. Would like to see you do this and post pics.

Well I hope you filled the floating bolt holes as any good new cushion job dictates as in my pic when I do them. Plus my rail ext don't require extending the feather strip as I eliminated that step.

I carry a table saw and 12" planner with me in my truck, so I keep a stock pile of feather strips with me at all times, as I always replace the feather strips when needed, including broken ones, as I don't tape them or anything else and reuse them;) and I never fill the floating nut plate cavity, no need to if you use the right glue to install the cushions:D

Sorry, I don't use tack strips, and I'll bet you $100 the table you showed picture of...has puckers in the pockets, not knocking you about that John, just making a statement of fact. Not everyone can install cloth without having puckers show up at a later date, and the way you showed stapling the corner pocket, it's going to have puckers, when I meet up with you, I'll show you how to avoid that on your future tables;):D

You said in another post that you use duct tape to mend feather strips????? I guess you don't do alot of GC's because if you did I don't care how much glue you use and how good it is, if there is nothing for it to glue to, it doesn't work period. Like Forest Gump says, and thats all I can say about that. Any mech want to talk about that???

Only fact is that this was a good job and you are knocking it. My work doesn't pucker.

John, I use duct tape to thicken a feather strip for a tighter fit, not to fix a broken one! Don't do many GC's? I've owned 3 pool halls, one with 37 tables, and have been a mechanic for 26 years, I don't fill the nut cavity, if the wood is chewed out, and there's nothing there....I replace the wood, by resurfacing the subrail and replacing the wood;)

I said I wasn't knocking your work, what I said was that I'll teach you how to avoid the puckers in the pockets, or does it bother you to learn something new?;)

So your telling me like you said before that if a feather strip is broke in half, you replace it? I don't think so.

When GC 3's have the floating nut cavity low, you resurface the subrail? you asked me once in another thread how I did this because you would be mad if you had to replace a floating nut and had to go through hell to get it. My way is quick, easy and accomplishes the same thing. I sent you and pat911 pics that day and told you how I do it.

Its good practice to do this when replacing rubber on GC's and thats why I said many posts back that my rail ext's were just as good as full blown but for one exception, and this was it.

Now its late and I have to do another job in the morning.

PS:

Don't remember ever asking you for lessons but appreciate your offer, I'll pass. In case you haven't noticed I have been doing just fine. This double sided tape works great and might just replace my tac strips. Only thing is the tack strips let me stretch not just from one side but back again and again.

So that you don't tell anyone how I am making my GC V into a Billiard table, how would you do that? I know its not going to be even close to what I have in mind.

John, look at this picture of a GC4 corner pocket, then go back and look at yours, and you'll see the puckers and fold a staple is holding down, then look to see if you see the samething in my picture;)

John, I don't care about your GC5 and how you're going to change it into a billiards table:D I'm more interested in working on changing an industry....not just one pool table for private home use:D I have billiards rails coming out for Diamond 9ft ProAms that turn them into billiards tables, therefore creating a new market for Diamond, and a much better 9ft Billiards table than what the junk ones that are currently on the market;)

Well I guess I am not going to bed just yet,

Man, I am sorry that it doesn't meet your approval. Its under the rail, the cloth is fine. The pic I showed is of my work. The pic is honest and thats how I do them. They don't pucker and look great under the rail when mounted. You are still knocking my work IMO.

When I change my GC table to billiards it means that all GC tables will be able to. I can't even believe that you can't see a benefit of this for mech's everywhere. ITs not just my table. Billiard rails for a Diamond, I guess you will have to have a whole new set. Very expensive as guys wanting this only play for a while and then want to go back to pool. If they really want to play billiards and like it that much they get a real billiard table. IMO

Just like with me, had my fun with snooker, going back to pool while I design the billiard system. When I cover the rails next time I will show you that I can do ladder work, line work or whatever with my staples. Really this is no big deal and I don't know why you are trying to make it out to be something like a problem when it is NOT. If I thought I was getting a grade on stapling I could have easily made them look perfect. I make them work and they do that just fine.

I am going to make coffee now so I can keep up with you the rest of the nite. Sometimes I wish you wouldn't inspire me so much.

John, I'm not knocking, if I was you'd know it;) I'm trying to tell you I've seen this a 1,000 times before, and I can show you how to do it better...and easier. That wasn't Simonis cloth was it?

Glen you do things your way and I will do them my way. This is a good way to do this mod. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm coffee tastes good, only 4 more hrs and off to wrk.

The job was nearly perfect. I would like to see you or anyone else do it. You can change everybody else but not me.

John, that's the same mentality that has kept mechanics in the dark ages;)
