Outsville Tip Drawing

I've already converted several layered tip users back to the single layers and hoping to do it in mass... As far as blind testing I will provide a soft, medium or hard on request or match as close as I can to the winners current tip preference... The blind part is that I will not be providing the actual durometer number or COR test results.....

Chris

I like this. Will you share the durometer number and COR afterwards?

Thanks,

The only reason that layered tips exist is because you cannot produce a single layered pig skin tip.....

The new processing of the single layered Outsville tips raises their COR values into the range found with the most popular and best performing layered pigskin.

Are you contradicting yourself?

He never says that his tips are layered pigskin, only that their COR values are in a comparable range, and so there is no inherent contradiction in the parts of his post that you've quoted.

So that would mean that his tips are not pigskin. Right? Does he say anywhere what his tips are made of?

The website doesn't say what material is used, although because OP said "you cannot produce a single layered pig skin tip", all he needs to demonstrate to avoid the charge of self-contradiction is that his tips are either multi-layered pigskin or that they are made from another material entirely (layered or otherwise).

My guess is that Outsville might be using some synthetic material with decent R&D behind it ...but I should stress that this last part is merely my speculation.

Synthetic material for cue tips!! That could be revolutionary... if it improves what leather tips do.

There is a great story about the invention of the leather tip in the Billiard Enciclopedia.

If it's not an Outsville trade secret, I'd like to know which material is used.

Perhaps OP can shine some light on that question?

We use cow hide....

As far as synthetics, most synthetics still fall short of mother nature as a replacement for leather but I keep looking.. There may be a line of synthetics in the future but there have been attempts made by others and they never caught on.. Being able to actually quantify COR and hardness requirements should make it somewhat easier to find the correct material but as of yet the hunt is still on......

Chris

btw... We currently have a break tip in design that is silk based and not leather... I need to fabricate some special fixtures and jigs to move it forward in r&d....

Cpl of days left until the drawing.. pushing this to the front page for anyone who missed it first go around....

Bought into the hype and got a Kamui soft...first was brown that chipped second is black and is has this glossy effect and you have to work the tip up more than I've ever had to... I'm ready to switch

I would love to try a medium out.
