Outsville Tip Drawing

did your dog eat your cue?

No, but he did look at it lovingly.... :D

Macro is a wonderful thing in photography, and a scary one, too, heh heh. It doesn't look nearly that bad to the naked eye. Still, it looks pretty grim in the photo, doesn't it?

I just got my Outsville M R&D tip installed by a well known cue maker. He said it machines just like a LePro tip. I showed him all the fancy words that he has never saw before. He said to make sure I'm not just buying dazzle. The tip was only 12.75mm in diameter.

I'll defer on playability for now. I have a built in bias. I like the way this tip is being researched.

It has a nice dark brown burnish. There is one tiny white speck on the side of the the tip next to the ferrule. I probably won't notice it, unless I look for it. I may be able to use that speck to my advantage.

To Justadub: Could you please edit your post, making your pictures smaller or one on top of the other. Everybody's posts will be running off the end of the screen.

Look familiar... thats why I've made like 3 trips back to my lathe the first 1-2 hours of play- for the soft hybrid variant... After the 'mushroom break in phase', I finely got it (the soft tip) to look like a normal tip (after 3 trimmings). Now the soft is actually playing much better from when I first installed it.... Mushrooming has slowed to almost none on this soft tip after 3-4 days of playing/ 2-3 hours/day ... No breaks/jumps or hard masse' shots on this soft tip. interesting.

Trimming this soft hybrid tip without using a lathe would prolly be counter productive... I think it would get more 'fiber hairly' on the mushroomed edges if done by hand imo .. thanks for the images.

Originally My thoughts were that most tips are now under 13mm so thats where I went with my presses... The tips are sorted by grade and not size which is an oversight since I know there are a few smaller than 14mm mixed in from a few batches ago....

Everything in production will be full 14 so I apologize if anyone has a fitment issue... IF you do let me know and I will send out a 14mm ASAP.....

Anyone else that I send out tips to I will ask for size needs as well and check them going out the door... :embarrassed2:

After looking at the images I'm not sure what to say... The tip will not polish up like a hard leather tip because of it's nature... The leather has been treated to up the COR but the elements left in the leather after treatment don't improve the ability to burnish them.. Looking at the image I would say that tip would likely feel mushy LOL

The harder you try to get it to a high gloss the more it will fight...

This is what the ones Blackburn and several other cue makers installed looked like... They will end up matte grey like the image below... Sorry for the resolution but it's the best I can do of an installed soft tonight... I'll try and grab a better camera than my ancient blackberry has tomorrow....

I don't know if you still offer tips for reviews, I would gladly make a review in here after trying the tip if you decide to pick me.

I am a lover of the one layered tips forever and I been using lepro's and triangle, if this tip is close to these two tips I'm sure I'll love them, feel free to PM me if I'm picked for review, thanks.

Hope I'm not to late

I hope I'm not to late, I would be more then happy to give my review on these tips, I would like soft and Med if I may. Thank you for your time. Mailing address will be PM'ed to you

I had my (soft) installed and it arrived at 14mm
I have had no mushrooming. After it was installed I took a black marker while still on the lathe and made my sides black. No complaints thus far
I'd really like to try the mediums out on another cue. The soft is a little softer than I'm used to so I think the mediums would play closer to the hardness of the Kamui softs that I've been using. My buddy I practice with is a pro level player that has always used lepros so he is putting in the hours with the soft.
I figured his feedback would be better

Hey man, lepros are usually hard, so if he is practicing with this tip as a soft I don't think it will be what he wants, I don't know, i havent tried this tip yet, but you said that your used to kamui soft and this tip soft feels too soft for you?

then what I would think is if a guy plays with a lepro, he would want a hard outsville tip? I am not sure just guessing here based on your information...because I play with lepro and I'm wondering what hardness should i get from outsville tip

The soft tip is softer than a Kamui Soft. As far as a lepro, The only time I have used them is when they came on a cue I bought.
I asked for a soft because I was using a soft. My buddy OTOH says he likes it.
He is a beast player and knows what he likes I guess
Appreciate the perspective though

Okay, here is my review.
Single layer tip, cut pretty good. No issues at all and I don't have a lathe.
This was a medium tip.
By far one of the best single layered playing tips I have used.

As for the feel, I would say it reminded me of the Everest tip.

I also want to say this still very new, I only played about 2-3 hours with it. I do wonder what it will feel like in two months from now. Will the feel hold up or not. Time will tell.

When I figure out how to post some pictures I will do that.

All in all a pretty good tip.

I wanted to add that I was very happy to have been able to test this tip out.
I usually avoid single layered tips due to consitency issues from one tip to another. Hope these will be consistent.

I have just had the opportunity to install the med I received from Outsville. Thanks for the tip. If I received it a week earlier I would have had a cue maker install it, but there are none local so I did it myself.

I was pretty easy to install and to shape. The play is similar to a 'good' triangle, which is a good thing, but it grips the cueball a little more. The problem with that is when I try to put a lot of soft spin on the ball, it doesn't go where I expected at first. Once I played with it for a while it wasn't as pronounced. If all the medium tips play the same way as the one you sent me, that would be a nice tip to get used to, if it wasn't too expensive. Consistency is key and the reason I moved from a Triagle to a Moori in the first place (many years ago). Now I like mediums by Moori, Talisman and will be trying the UltraSkin soon.

Keep up the good work, I can't wait to play some meaningful sets with this tip to try it out in earnest.

Last of the review tips are going in the mail tomorrow... If you are on the list and haven't PMed yet get errr done so I have your address and tip choice info...

Keep the reviews coming please...

I received my "hard" Outsville tip a couple of days ago. Thank you for the oppurtunity to try it out. I installed the tip myself, no professional installers nearby. It was a bit of a challenge getting a good shape on it, (not sure what the hardness rating is on it but seemed very hard to me) with a little patience I was able to get a nice shape on it and the edge burnished up easily.

I've shot with it for 4-5 hrs. now, it seems to hold chalk well, has a good feel/feedback and I doubt there will be any problem with mushrooming due to its hardness. I haven't scuffed the tip since installing it and have had no miscues. I've tested all types of english including extreme inside/outside and power draw/follow and it performed well. The only real problem I can report is that I actually missed a couple of shots! Obviously a design flaw in the tip, couldn't possibly be me. :)

I've recently played with a Moori and Sniper tip. It seemed a little harder than the Moori (which I also liked) and much harder than the Sniper, which I thought was too soft and didn't last very long.

So far I would give you an "A" on your tip and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. I will continue to use it and report back anything worth noting. Good luck in your endeavor and thanks again.

Thanks for the feedback Mark ...

What I am seeing is that the steps between the soft, medium, and hard may have room for a medium soft and medium hard based upon the feedback I am getting.... So far all tips are performing well and I am waiting on more info as to how they are changing as they are played in....

I have tested a control sample and they stayed very close in hardness and COR thru out their life but everyone plays the game differently... Some people baby whitey, some like to pound it around the table and stun most of their shots, and some players like to spin the bejesus out of their shots... I am not saying any way is best as playing the game and enjoying it trumps everything....

I shoot nothing but big stroke shots some days now that I don't get to play regularly just because it makes me smile... The soft I was putting thru it's paces wasn't the best choice for this type of play but it only changed about 3% according to my testing after about 30 hours of pounding the ball......

I look forward to hearing from everyone who has replied as to how the tips are holding up....

For those of you that have send me addresses in the last week and not received tips yet... I have been looking into the matte finish after burnishing... I know this is mainly a personal preference issue so it may not even be important but I like shiny =)

I have tried the different burnishing solutions from tiger and porper and I think I have the proper formulation for a new low flash burnishing solution that doesn't require a lathe for application...

I have also altered the final processing of the tips in an attempt to possible not even need a burnishing solution... The test batch is going out to the cuemaker's today for installation and testing... IF the changes I made show a esthetic improvement and have not impacted performance you will be getting the new tips... If there is a performance change I'll be sending out the same samples I have been sending...

Either way tips ship Monday to anyone who has not received their review tip yet
