Overcutting Balls And Then Not

Maybe someday you'll "observe" it yourself.

As for your repeated trumpeting of your religious beliefs, take those to the Non Pool Related forum where they'll get all the respect they deserve.

You hijacked this thread I started, and now you want me to head for the "free speech zone"? Wow, your double standard is huge.

I was responding to your post re: I'm not Christlike, with two observations:

1. I have a lot in common with Jesus, beginning with (as He promised) being hated without cause.

2. Jesus loves you, and died for you. Trust Him and be saved. (Message repeats on an endless loop unless you'd care to talk about aiming).

An excellent observation, Patrick.

Jesus was God and told people of His love. He was gracious and marvelous and no one I know, not even Atheists who deny His Godhood, will say anything bad about Him.

Yet He was slaughtered as a lamb. Why do you think that was?

Back in the day, Jesus threw out the money changers from the temple, like today, the POTUS want's to regulate the Banks and Wall Street...So the 1% are persecuting him by giving their gold coins to the Republican PACs.

Like Jesus was, "slaughtered as a lamb" on Easter, so will Obomba this November.

If you want to lighten the mood, perhaps attacking the poor sucker under attack from everyone was not a great choice!

Thanks for the note. I'd encourage you to watch the bangers and ask a few questions. I think you'll come to agree with me after some observation.

I wasn't attacking you. I was making a satirical response to Roadie's post, not one of yours. Probably hard for you to believe I suppose, but my post was not about you.

And I do watch bangers and amateurs play frequently, in league. Every week in fact. And in my experience more often they do not play enough cut.

BTW, has anyone ever told you that you look like Dr. Oz?

I personally think that the republicans have already dogged the shot and overcut the room rent on this one. By choosing a candidate who represents the 1% so clearly the 99% will exercise the only power they have left and keep the lesser of two evils in office.

Had they understood how to aim a little thicker they would have made the shot but as it stands they will likely lose the set.

Obomba was the Libs, "Great Black Hope." but he made them lose jobs in droves, has deported more illegal hispanics that they call him, "The Deporter in Chief", hasn't taken ownership of his students and saved ACORN, he hasn't rallied the Occupy Movement against the 1% and let them get arrested, not one word against Cick-Fil-A and didn't attend the Kiss In there etc..

He won on "Hope and Change."

Then he did a 1/2 tip lateral shift and Pivoted to the Right.

Oh boy. I think we should stick to how to play pool. :-)

I understand. I've mentioned several times on this thread I am discussing those who were taught ghost ball.

On this cut shot, and I know I'm taking a limited example here, they almost always--even up to a strong level of player, hit the long rail. You're saying your league acquaintances drive these object balls to the short rail and bank them by accident "more often than not"?

These are the kind of do-or-die cut shots I'm thinking of more so than a ball hugging a rail.

I apologize for causing any confusion.

This is a very old forum thread. But I wanted to say that some of Matt's advice really helped my game. I've watched a lot of coaches on Youtube, across snooker, 9-ball and English pool including Barry Stark, Nic Barrow, Dr Dave and Tor Lowry. I think that Matt's articles on the fundamentals actually offers a fresh perspective on potential flaws that these other coaches haven't really picked up on. I agree with Matt, that a player's skill does not correlate with their ability as a coach. I would go further and say that a lot of pro coaches are used to teaching children or former child players, where a lot of the _really_ basic fundamentals are actually assumed to be learnt intuitively without much explanation.

One example of where Matt really helped me is his article on the stance. I've seen maybe 50 videos from different coaches talking about the stance, and they always cover exactly the same stuff; the feet, legs, hands and arms. But I've never seen another article other than Matt's (with perhaps the exception of some interesting advice from Niels Feijen) that talks about the position of the torso itself, which actually turned out for me to be more important than all that other stuff!! My game improved quite a lot after employing some simple advice which he rightfully claimed on his page hadn't been taught by other coaches.

Although I do think there was something he missed with his stance article, which is that the problem he mentions is also caused by people not putting the back end of the cue properly on the line of the shot. I.e. in the forward, standing position, the butt of the cue should be in front of the thigh whereas many people have it to the right of the thigh, which results in the butt of the cue being too far to the right when they get down. His method partially corrects this by getting the player to get down with their torso to the left of the cue, but it may not be the whole solution.

I also agree with Matt that new players tend to over-cut balls _a lot_ more than they under-cut them. I've seen this over and over, in my own game especially and in others.

I don't really think it's that insulting to say 'this advice is not taught by other coaches', he's not naming names or shaming specific people. He's simply taking pride in offering a unique perspective. I think the original criticial comment which basically said 'Matt is a horrible person' is actually the kind of thing a real horrible person would say. I think Matt's main fault in this thread was engaging with that for so long. One reply was probably sufficient then he shouldn't have engaged with the criticism further.
