overrated and/or crappy cuemakers?

Cuemakers are like Beauty tis in the eye of the Beholder. Some even love Meucci, and Collect em....LOL

Old Meucci's were quality, and great players.

I don't think Coker is a bad cue maker or dealer. He does produce quality cues that hit a ton. Usually his service is great. I just think he is having some problems right now and it is screwing him up. I only posted what happened to me so I could get(hopefully), his attention...If not, I will have my friend fix it...
His cues are great quality and hit good. You can not go wrong with a Coker.. His service is just getting bad lately...

I cant say theres ever a seriously crappy cue maker unless he just tries to make a cue and it looks like a banana! over and over again.

And yes even the Old Meucci Originals are good cues!

Now not to be like Shorty and just shout out that Blud's cues are overrated or kinda crappy,,, not sure of his exact words, but yea, i think most people know what he said.

Which I think Blud's cues are one of the top 10 cuemakers around. I've played with a couple of his cues and damn! they are very very nice!

Anyways ttfn

I think that joey golds cogs are way over priced. i have shot with them and i have a players cue that hits better than that.

be honest, who are they? Looks like Coker just lost a fan.

Before you start judging the Coker's from the incidence with NINEBALLART, maybe you should wait it out and listen to the whole story. I believe that Coker cues are great cues that are made and priced for the players. It's just......Tom can be kind of strange sometimes (probably due to illness and age?) I don't believe this post is complete justified nor appropriate on this forum. Besides there have been numerous others that have had great experiences with Coker. Anyways, just a thought.

I said the same sentiments about the Cokers as you. But I need Tom to do something to make this right and wanted his attention so I posted it. I could not talk to him or get thru to him so I figured I would use the forum.. I said he is under stress and has been sick, but I still need him to follow thru. I said he makes great cues and they hit great. I couldn't think of any other recourse to follow to get him to do something. Any suggestions???

I love his cues and bought many of them, mostly for resale. He could be a bit surly and very opinionated, not unlike many other cuemakers. Must go with the territory.

Actually, I find the fact that you speak so well of his cues despite this incident has me cruising around the various cue sellers on the net looking at his cues. What do they say, "no publicity is bad publicity".

This is true. I was in NC, and this one old guy had an OLD Meucci. He was the first owner and this thing was like new. Funny, it was only like 18 oz. I asked him if I could hit a ball with it. I broke a rack of 9 ball (with his break cue), made a ball, and ran out on a tight Diamond quite easily. I was really impressed with how well it played.....and even liked the lighter weight. I've been thinking of hunting down an old Meucci to test as my own player. I'd say, don't knock 'em til' you try 'em (the old ones). My dad has a newer one, and personally I think it's a piece of dung. He likes it though.

Cuemakers often have quirks in their personalities much like any other "artists" or creators. I don't know if it is the creating the cues or servicing the public which pulls out these undesirable quirks. ;-)

Condone what you can and if you can't, simply avoid dealing with the cue maker. Most of us have, from time to time, had poor experiences (as well as positive experiences) dealing with merchants and we resolve it by complaining to the merchant not trying to put them out of business. This medium can be fairly viscious.

Jay, that sure was the nice way to say what I'm gonna, lol. Most cuemakers...like top ring pool players are EGO MANIACS and in most cases, unless your in their inner circle your opinion doesnt rate. But thats just me.

do you really expect someone to come on this forum and say this cuemaker is worthless, not good, wont cooperate, does bad work, etc, etc?

probably within a day or two you would have that cuemaker contacting you, wanting to know what your problem is.

I'll go as far as to say ... If I were a cuemaker, my product would be pretty useless. :)

I think that Cogs, Tascarellas, and Searings are all way overrated....And to show what a nice guy that I am, and since I wouldn't want any of my friends here on the board stuck with poor quality cues, I'll give anyone $500 if they want to go ahead and get out from under these cues before they are completely worthless :D :D :D .

The ones in my signature I would buy from time and time again.

The ones I wouldn't, I would never publicly post here because I don't think it's fair and not everyone has the same experiences. I do have one that I would NEVER order from again but like I said, the name does not go public.

A good many folks only get to see & meet some of the cue makers at Valley Forge. While most of us have a jam up time there, it's pretty brutal for the vendors, esp the cue makers. At the Expo in Baltimore I was working a booth by a cue co that will remain unnamed. They were talking to someone about Valley Forge and they said it's not an enjoyable experience for them. The hours for the vendors are very long and it's non-stop dealing with the public all day, every day. It's possible that if you've only met a cue maker at that show, you're not exactly getting their good side. They're probably tired, worn out, and running quite thin on patience by the time you meet up with them. ;)

The BCA had a nice gathering at the Sheraton on Thur night as a going away party for Amy Long and Stephen Ducoff. Some of the people there included Dan Dishaw, Jim Stadum, & Jerry Olivier. There were others there but these are the 3 that I spent the most time talking to and I found all three to be quite funny and enjoyable to be around.
