PA player help

You should join the Yankee Club. It's a private club, kind of like a VFW... the food & drinks are cheap, the food is good, they've got 4 or 5 GC, if I'm not mistaken, and I'm pretty sure they have league out of there too. If I lived in York, I'd practically live at that place.
I'm sure BANKONIT will see this thread and he'll be able to tell you all about it. Ed???

By tomorrow night you should have a lot of answers. I am truly amazed at the number of players I have had contact with who live in PA.
There are at least a half dozen posters here, who live in York. Like Jack said...several will pop up here and help you out.

I too am surprised at the number of folks from PA on here. The thing that makes it even more interesting is that PA is not really a "pool friendly" place. I've lived in quite a few states and PA is the worst for pool. Due to the number of pool fanatics in PA, the only answer to this is the state laws. There is one pool hall in downtown York called Ivory Billiards, and one ACS sponsored league that has a team in Hellam. That is the extent of what I’ve been able to drudge up. I'm really surprised that the APA or the BCA hasn't planted a seed here. There really is a lot of wayward pool players looking for competition. Thanks for all of the responses. As soon as Ed see's this, he'll explain it, or if Kevin Lindstrom see's it, he can too. As best as I can tell, Kevin rarely peeks his head out of the cue section though.asmith74 said:

Dillsburg here. About 25 minutes north or York. How are your Sunday afternoons? There is a little 9 ball tournament every Sunday afternoon at Ivory Billiards where you can get all the competition you need. Several excellent players. For $15 you just can't beat getting that kind of tough competition. I'm normally there but I may not be this Sunday.
I know there are a couple guys there that play in leagues in the York area so you would be able to find out about that as well. Club Med in Harrisburg is closer for me as far as when I get a chance to go somewhere to practice a little. But mostly I just get to play Thursday night league and Sundays at Ivory.
Hope to see you there. I should be the on Feb. 4th for sure. Not sure about this Sunday though. Blaze 9 Ball is scheduled there 3 times this year also.

Also, the TAP league seems to be popular in Pennsylvania. I have attended a charity event hosted at the Moose Club in Carlisle, PA, and it was EXCELLENT. The TAP league operators run this charity event which is an annual happening, and they call themselves "Billiards for Benefits."
Pool folk from around the region flock to Carlisle and have themselves a ball! It would be a good place to network and meet other pool folk in Pennsylvania too.
Matter of fact, the next Billiards for Benefits just happens to be right around the corner on February 2nd and 3rd at The Hotel Carlisle, 1700 Harrisonburg Pike, Carlisle, PA.
It is a charity event for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
All ages welcome. Door prizes and raffles, cash prizes and awards.
Friday, February 2nd, starting at 6:00 p.m., there will be a Mixed Doubles Scotch Tourmament, open to the first 16 teams. Pre-registration suggested, and the entry fee is $20 per team.
Saturday, February 3rd, there will be an 8-ball tournament and a silent auction. The play starts at 10:00 a.m.
There will be three divisions:
Men's Division, $30 entry fee, $500 to winner based on 64-man field.
Women's Division, $30 entry fee, $300 to the winner, based on 32-woman field.
Junior Division, 15 years and under, $10 entry fee.

I am a member of the Yankee Club and would suggest that you check it out. If you pm me a phone number or email address I can give you more info on the club. Matter of fact I will be going there tonight for our in-house straight pool league.
The Ivory Billiard room is for sale so I am not sure how long it will be around. Hopefully the current owner is just looking to relocate to the east side of town. Otherwise if it sells to a non-pool room business it will mean that there is no pool room in York.

Additionally the Yankee Club holds 2 large 9-ball tourneys per year. One on "Black Friday" and the other on "Good Friday". Last years "Black Friday" tourney was so large (53 players) that they plan to try to add more dates for these 9-ball tourneys. The club is having one of these new date this Saturday

The auction was really cool, and every single attendee left with an armful of goodies, all donated to the charity.
I really enjoyed hanging out with these Pennsylvania pool folk. It's as if I had known them my entire life. We all had one thing in common, and that was our love of the game. Keith was having a ball, playing on a challenge table, especially with the children. He has a very special place in his heart for the young'ns. The people who run this event is what makes it a complete success. EVERYBODY has a good time.
I'm looking at my calendar, and February 3rd looks good at the time of this writing. Plus, it's a very pleasant short drive from my home, which is always nice!

The tournament on Saturday will have the calcutta starting at 12:00 noon and the tourney itself to start directly following the calcutta. We hope to have 20 plus players. The Blaze tourney in Egg Harbor NJ on Sunday may have some affect on our turn out, we hope not but we will see. Future events will be planed and scheduled so as not to conflict with Blaze and Planet Pool tour tournaments. Any other questions please feel free to pm or email me at kevinlindstrom@msn.com
