what is the pad used under the tip on a schon cue????
are all pads the same? ive seen Red and Black colored pads before.
schon uses what looks like a black pad under there tips from the factory.

im asking because ive always wanted to mimic the hit of my origional schon shaft on my spare non schon shaft as close as possible...and am just now getting around to it..any idea on what the exact tip on shcon might be....its a pretty hard tip....ive heard people say that they are Water Buffalo....they keep shape very very nicely

supposed to protect the ferrule from cracking, you find the pads especially on ivory ferruled shafts, and LD non ferruled shafts...its also going to dampen the hit somewhat. I'm not that fond of it, but I do think the red backed tips look sweet on a good cue.

they do soften the hit and protect ivory ferrules, also they used to be made from insulation material found in old tv's (by some cuemakers)

The traditional pad found under the tip on many shafts, especially those with Ivory ferrules, is made from "Vulcanized Fiber". Also known as "Fish Paper". Most agree that these pads do soften the hit somewhat.

On our OB Cue Shafts, we don't use these pads. Instead, we use a "Carbon Fiber" pad. Carbon fiber has a much higher tensile strength which is what we want on our cue shafts. These pads are also much harder than the traditional pads, so they don't change the hit or feel of the cue shaft.

Just a note!

All OB Cue shafts must have the carbon fiber pads in place to protect the ferrule. It is a part of the total design and should be left in place. On our website, we have complete instructions on how to replace the tip without removing the pad at all. I have retipped my cue shafts dozens of times without removing or cutting into the carbon fiber pad. If they must be replaced, they are available from us, so just give us a call.

cuemakers ARE A CULT so dont knock it , just keep buying the flowers at the airports and u will be safe!

anyone???

does anyone know what tip hit's the closest to schon's proprietary tip/pad combo????

ive asked around...nobody knows on the streets.

if i contacted evan to sell me some of his....do you think he would sell me 5 or 10??

Schon uses a hard Water Buffalo tip.
The pad is a carry-over from their days of using ivory ferrules.
They still offer their shafts with the ivory ferrule option but the pad is now used on all of their shafts. Tradition I guess because the ferrule used on their non-ivory shafts certainly doesn't need a pad for protection.

Schon doesn't sell cue parts, not even tips.
