A friend of mine has a 1st catolog model 16 i believe, that he would like to get refresh. It needs a refinish, and would like to get three shafts made, which it currently has 3 shafts. He wants some long shafts, for total length of 58, 60, 63. As the original shafts are long. If you could give me your experience with the cuemakers you have used. My first choose is to busy to do it, so i need help. And no its not for sale

There is a forum member here named TATE. PM him about this. He is the Palmer guru you seek. :)

Just for the record, that's a 3rd Catalog Model 14.

Not holding it makes it difficult to judge but it doesn't look bad in the picture. I would be hesitant to jump at refinishing any cue. For example, the wrap is easy to clean. A cue is only original once and to many people an original cue is more desirable unless little of the finish remains.

If the owner is hell-bent on refinishing the cue, I would select someone who is a full-time cuemaker and familiar with Palmers. Too many of these vintage cues are being damaged in the refinish/restoration process.

Sorry not a Palmer expert, just going by what I was told. The owner is the original with his Nick name in the buttsleeve, and would like the cue to be near new again, it has seen lots of action, but seems to be sound, no rattles, just some clear coming off.

Looking on the Palmer collector site, it does look like a 3rd model 14, but the dots are two different sizes in this cue

For a refinish, I recommend Scot Sherbine at Proficient www.proficientbilliards.com

Scot is in Ephrata, PA. not far from Lancaster, which could be near your friend. You can call Scot and ask him about the shafts as well. He does make shafts but you may have a difficult time getting shafts made over 30". Scot is very reliable and fair. A good cue maker should be able to replicate the original taper on those shafts.

I would suggest Guido Orlandi. 906-542-7069

Guido has been a Cue Maker repairman for 20 plus years.

Top Notch service. He just sold 2-3 Palmers.
