it is just behind the ferrule and runs about 1 1/2 in......what to do? warranty from predator or what? some wood glue or what? luckily not playing today but got matches Tuesday........what would you do?

I'd take a picture of it, send it to Predator, and ask about repair options, and if it is covered by warranty.

Send it to Predator and tell them to fix it or replace it.

You should get your new shaft in a couple weeks.

Was your original tip ever replaced? If it was, I know what happened...LOL!

I would send this shaft for warranty repair and play with my spare shaft if I were you.

Has the ferrule ever been replaced? If so you are wasting your time contacting Predator. I had a guy bring me a 314 where he cracked the ferrule and continued to play with it!!! He had the same problem, cracks running down the shaft, I told him it was more than likely trash now but he wanted to try to fix it anyways. I fixed it and told him no guarantees on it lasting. So far no problems 2 months into it but I don't see it lasting. What had happened is he had another cue maker taper the shaft down to 12.00mm and the ferrule was just about paper thin at the base.

Pink beet me to it. Shes quite the little carrot.

An actual crack or has the lamination raised? I had a couple of OB shafts. One had a raised portion.

If it is a small crack, you could fill it with glue but I am not a Pred repairman.

It would take you thru the game but I wouldn't do anything to it that may void a Pred warranty.

Not saying that it would be a hack way of repairing a Pred shaft. On some shafts that have too large a dent to pop, filling is quite often the only option.

If Pred didn't have a warranty program, filling would be an option.

if you are explaining it correctly and im understanding it correctly you have the exact same issue i had. i called predator to let them know i was sending in. they gave me their shipping info for UPS. I sent it to them and had a replacement within the same week. i got a call the day before i received it with the message itll be delivered to my door tomorrow. people here seem to have perfectly good CS from predator others seem to get the "shaft" (what a terrible pun). best of luck to you.

I called them yesterday and got the website for shipping instructions and sending it off today..he told me that within 2 days of receiving it, I would get a message from them as to what they can or can't do, so I am hoping for the best outcome...and I got a match tonight too.....back to my antique McDermott I guess.......

Might be a blessing in disguise... Getting reacquainted with your McD. :)

I'd try to get there a little early to practice plenty of shots where you are putting R or L english on the cue... see what speed you can shoot and still have relatively reliable aim.

As long as you stay within a comfort zone and respect the difference, you should be just fine. It's when you try to do too much where you'll probably start cursing... ;)

G'luck.

yea, I was thinking the same, it took me 2 weeks or so to get used to the ld shaft and now I have to go back to the "old" way.....going to get there early to see what adjustments I have to make......

seriously -

it's a good thing you ran this thread. and i think someone else had a similar issue? in furniture, it's called a "bad cutting"/production lot - when you have a certain % of same issue claim. and it's covered under Warranty.
things happen sometimes. it's how the mfg handles them, that makes all the difference.
but other consumers need to know.

keep us posted!

Have had this happen on 3 predator shafts over the years 2 Z2's and a 314. Each time it was replaced, but it helped that I live here in Jacksonville and had friends that worked there.

In each of the cases, it's basically hairline cracks where the glue was separating. I never broke with my shaft etc., but over time, a lot of play, weather, etc., that seems to happen more than it should. Oddly enough my current 314-2 which has even been whittled down somewhat over time, had been rock solid. But nervous, as I'm going on 2 years with it, and if it does develop a crack they probably won't warranty it because of the diminished size (it's about 12.4mm now instead of the 12.75 when new).

Because of this, I'm looking at some other shafts, if nothing else as a backup. I have a Z2 and OB2, both almost brand new, that I will sell once I get a proper backup for my 314-2.

Good luck, let us know what happens! And I still know 1 person at Predator, if you need any assistance.
Scott
