We left our last story with the kid getting spotted at golf, playing one handed and the right wrist got too sore so the kids black chauffeur ,body guard is introduced to the game and proceeds to lose

My stories have been too long for some of you so I am going to cut to a shorter version to make some of you happier. Mo
Brooks from Oak Cliff was a good friend of mine and we worked a salt and pepper act on golf courses across the south west
back in these days,Titanic introduced us.Mo was a scratch or close golfer in those days.He and Charlie Sifford were both taught
by a well know golf pro in Loiusiana back in the day when golf was not a black mans game.

Of the two I believe Mo was the better player, but the life, the con,the hustle was in his blood.Charlie played on the PGA tour
and made a name for himself

Mo could actually shoot par one handed from the front tees, but we commonly got spotted
a stroke or two per hole.Golf is such a difficult game that people think it is impossible to play one handed.
Mo also had some great gaff games playing with a shovel, and rake,I myself had shot 78 with one hand from the front
tees on occasion on short easy tracks
Honestly,i could hit a soft flop shot with one hand that would go softly through the air, suspended like slow motion
and land by the hole like a butterfly with sore feet, whereas with 2 hands i can not hit that shot It is a thing of
beauty

I make this info available to you up front rather than let the story play out to you as it did to these Gamblers in Las Vegas,
Mo was using an assumed name,as was the kid,and with these lavish means of creating a aura of almost unbelievable easy money
,who is gonna check you out when you are spreading money arround

please refer to earlier stories

Well at first people are giving these huge spots, and either winning or breaking even, but our fellow man had larceny in their hearts
and they make a call here,a call there and they bring in a former national amateur champion and possibly the best player alive

,including Hogan,Sneed, Palmer,,a fellow that may be known to a few of you by the name of Harvey Ward,a name better known than
by some than by face, actually known by very few in person

Now this guy could play, and play for the dough, but of course withThe Kid getting 2 strokes per hole and Mo getting more,
all they needed to do was shoot 100 and the other guy would have to shoot 64,Of course Harvey not only could shoot 64,but,
would easily shoot that good on this short track, therefore the sneaky professional gamblers and the drug king pin decided
to lower the boom on the kid, once and for all

Harvey strolls up with his great personality and warm endearing manner and ingratiates himself into the game.No tough
trick since the kid seems unaware of potential chicanery or subterfuge

If you have been reading with us you can imagine what is happening, finally they bet $250,000 and Harvey shoots lights out
,Mo shoots 120 and this is pleasing to everybody

Who wouldn't be happy winning $250,000? and the kid is playing for one big score by priming the pump, one of the dames seems
taken with Harvey ,who is a big ladies man so not everybody is thinking about gambling exclusively and Harvey lets slip who he really is,
and what do you know the broad spills the beans in front of everyone.Harvey srugs his soldiers as he gets the glance

Harvey gets a dirty look, but the kid is laughing ,he loves a good trick,so everyone laughs and the kid says we need to change the Game,
Harvey needs to go to the championship tees and we get an extra stroke a hole, they offer 2 strokes but allow the Mo to take a Mulligan 4 times per side

One thing leads to another over the poker table, the kid loses $500,000 give or take and everyone sees things as getting back on track.
Mo announces he needs new clubs and promises the kid he can play better"I guarantee i will shoot better,I am getting comfortable"
'
What a sucker' is the thought of the fellows "How many times ,have we heard this story" "Prelude to happy sailing, going off"

Before long a four day tournament style 18 holes pr day ,match play game is decided upon and everybody in Las Vegas wants
some of the action.all bets are posted in the cage, written down and signed officially

The kid gets over $6,000,000 bet,he is all in on his winnings and the 4 day match is started
.After 18 holes Harvey is 4up and shooting perfect golf, after 2 days Harvey is 6 up and shooting perfectly
,Mo points out how much better he is playing and tells the kid"it's just a matter of time"
Perhaps a little too loud. The kid says good,I just got another $5,000,000 deposited
in the cage, tomorrow we will bet more and bust these guys. This of course is heard by everyone

The dame takes Harvey out on the town,he loses sleep, and tee time is 6AM,it gets very hot in Vegas
you gotta play early

The bets are raised, only all $5,000,000 is bet ,but the kid gets 2 to 1 on the money
because he is already 6 down with 36 holes to go

The kid states, I expect more money by tomorrow, this is getting exciting !
The kid is so genuine,so transparent,so stupid in the eyes of the self proclaimed "smart"

you guys know the type,it is in the pool room everywhere

"I love this,I really love this"says the kid to no one in particular

Many of you are asking ',where did the kid get all this money to set this elaborate play up?'

i was thinking of waiting to tell you,but perhaps a glimpse behind the scenes will provide some insight

The kid was at Titanic's when the phone call came from Vegas,.King Pin had just discovered he had been duped at the card game.

The Kid saw his opportunity and asked for $250,000 to set up the sting to get the KP even, with the understanding that the KP would provide the ways and means to accomplish the sting.
The kid would get all the KP money back, and then get 50% of the winnings after KP got even and expenses.

KP then provided insight and shill SERVICES (,placing bets to get everyone else to bet.)Also the Kid would keep up the size and lose money back to KP in public. This kept the score manageable and let the kid look like a sucker in the eyes of the public while making it easy to pay back the KP

the guys who had been beating the KP were now his victim,he was $6,000,000 behind when the kids project started,Titanic had been left out because his presence would arouse suspicion, and he was given $30,000 to call Johnny Ervalino knowing nothing except he had a free 30k and Johnny would win for him in allas

the Kid then had the advantage of all the benefits that KP had,his vast cash, his contacts, including his many show biz associates that go with being connected

the kid calls KP each time he needs him, tells him what to do,when to bet,on whom, how to act etc

kP is told this is the kids production ,first to last or he won't get involved.KP thinks it is Titanic's enterprise but what he doesn't know won't hurt him since the kid always cuts money fairly, there is no real gambling involved sure things or advertising.
Some times The Kid wins as in the poker game, but winning or losing a million is nothing when you are $6 million ahead and a cinch bet is coming quickly

The math problems are problems the kid has brought with him and has them introduced by the other team,KP starts the betting, the pundits must get in or miss their boat

So here at last while we have Mo ,a par shooter with one hand being spotted 36 strokes,it is easy for the KP to make big deposits into the cage.In these days secrecy was easy to obtain from the casino big wigs

this minor behind the scene glimpse may help you to see how the sting is progressing, and after all these years i believe this is the FIRST time that the story is ever told

You might be wondering what will happen if the casino men find out the truth.
This is where the kids plan shines, you are going to love seeing how the the biggest score
I ever heard of was accomplished

Many of you are familiar with Johnny Ervalino ,Mo Brooks was a legend in golfing circles, but like many gamblers
let talent and opportunity get away until a prolonged period of old age reduced him to small time scores and
living in and with stories that few people believe

Next time I write we will finish off the golf story,I hope you pool player can appreciate this, pool has never been
the vehicle for huge scores and most of them are questionable. The pool culture is fraught with peril for the big
score,an absolute idiot whispers the word business and the best laid plans
of mice and men go astray

It may not make me friends ,but pool is really the bottom of the gambling barrel.Even the best scores are small time and few at that.

Sure a blind hog finds an acorn wins $6k and thinks he is rich,so don't blame me for drifting away from the pool room to provide you an action story

Patiently waiting for what surely must be a great end to what has thus far been a great story. :yeah::yeah::yeah:

THE END

Mo played just right, terrible holes along with lots of bogeys and by the time the smoke cleared Harvey played great but lost. The kid was over $25, 000,000 ahead,The KP challenged him to a $10,000,000
poker game and they drug out the game for hours before the kid lost a big hand actually getting the accounting down while at the same time encouraging others to play)

the kid had $15,000,000 more or less,so each casino offered to put their best player in the game, but no one wanted to appear eager so they kept meeting together for fun.The kid flew in his own bar b q man from Texas and invited all the men and all their families for a day of fun at the golf course.little kids swimming, the girls, the babes, the wives, everybody, country singers of no little reputation,

casino performers sang, brought their families, cold drinks, you name it,no one ever had so much fun,
in a town famous for glitz this came over as down home, family oriented, you had to be there
i doubt there ever was or will be such a shing ding,at the hotel golf course, around dark at night to escape the heat
,lots of entertainers showed up,the wives danced with these famous guys, the magicians did tricks for the kids
the babes danced on the stage such that is was with the number 1 saloon singer to ever live, his kids were there,

It was fun,the kid sat off to the side, played with the kids, did card tricks, played catch, he was way off to the side taking it easy, entertaining everyone
the waiters and cooks joined the fun, rubbed elbows with the swells, and received gifts

everyone left feeling good about themselves
there were people there who you wouldn't want to mess with, people with reputations for bad things
but this night it was personal, not business

KP pulled the kid over and said"Kid ,get out while you can.You don't belong
in this life. Sooner or later it will eat your heart out"

The kid left the next day,he didn't say why,he didn't say good bye
This time he didn't say"See you tomorrow"

Those who knew the kid said he left the life altogether after that one big score.
Something happened, after that one score

he loved to play pool, but he never got good,he played mostly for small amounts thinking it would be fun
it wasn't
he never told the story and no one ever asked. If you asked his children or grandchildren or his wife
they never heard the story and would never believe it
Mo passed away,
he never saw the dames again, never really knew them. They just played their part.
In a two week part

Harvey was informed of the whole thing, woke up with $50,000 on his pillow
I guess he enjoyed it,he deserved it,he was a really upright citizen
many thought he was the best golfer of his era,he was the best i ever saw
And I saw plenty of the good ones,Played with Lee Trevino, but Harvey was ,
Well Harvey was one of a kind.Whether he was brought in by the KP or
was brought in totally unaware,I'm not sure

KP had a serious problem with the authorities, they never spoke again

Titanic never knew what happened on this one
The two of them never met again

Eddie Taylor was actually in with the kid,he taught the Kid how to make the bank shot
It requires that the rails are a certain height most Brunswick tables are.
Eddie was a little sharper than you might think, pool was not his only game

Eddie was in on a card part that I haven't disclosed to you,but the bank shot was his
contribution

this shot looks impossible,in fact if I set it up you guys would give me 100 shots at it today.
i people still bet,it is without doubt the best proposition bet ever

Waco stuck with the kid like he was his own son, and directed him into a business
Sam helped a bunch of people make it big,he was the brains and the money

Funny thing, most never paid him back
The Kid made plenty of money and actually gave quite a large chunk
to Sam toward the end.The Kid actually loved him like a father
and cried when he died

One thing about the Kid,he was loyal to a fault.
If you did him a favor,he remembered it
funny most people are happy borrowing a thousand or two and never
paying it back.I suppose the feel smart, but if they only knew

When you see an older fellow at the pool room, and he can't make a ball, and the local
smarts start acting up and taunting him,it might be a good time to buy the old fellow a drink
and show some respect,You just never know.

Just one week in an otherwise fairly average life

Thank for the tale, dean.

If it was half as good for you as it was for me, then it's a win-win for all

It was a great read all the way, the twists and turns only served to spice up the story. Thank you very much for sharing!
