Many of you are familiar with the name Pat Fleming, but you may only associate this man with Accu-Stats, the company that does the videos of major pool matches.

I was just scanning in some pages of a program from the 1982 Clyde Childress Memorial Pool Tournament, a few pages I had left out when I first put up a gallery for this tourney, and one page had a brief bio of Pat. As you can see, he was definitely a pool player to reckon with back "in the day." This was back at a time when Dave Matlock was just "an up and coming young tournament player!"

Never met him in person, have talked to him a few times ( I have a small stack of his DVDs ) got alittle laugh out of him when I told him I had a copy of A creative edge ( staring Pat ) but did not know he was that good of a player....I will say I know he runs a great bis... Got my new catalog yesterday as a matter of fact..

Pat is one of the greatest ambassadors of pool!! He has set up a complete studio inside of comet billiards!!! It's really awesome!

Here are some pics of my last visit there a couple of months ago.

Another nice word about Pat

A couple of years ago I had an idea about making a DVD with old timers telling their pool stories. I'd been kicking the idea around with Freddy B. When Fred asked Pat about the possibility of using one of his cameras, Pat offered to load us some equipment during periods when it would not be in use making Accu-Stats videos. He's a sweetheart!

I read somewhere that he was also one of the "inventors" of the jump cue.

According to Pete Tascarella, the first person he saw using a sawed-off house cue specifically to jump balls was Pat Fleming. Pete then made a custom jump cue based on that idea and believes he (Pete) is the first cuemaker to sell custom jump cues.

Bill,

I can't speak for Pat, but I would guess that one option would be to make a stop in Comet Billiards, where Pat has his video equipment set up full time (unless there is a major tournament somewhere).

Fleming definitely knows which end of the cue to hold.
Accu-Stats didn't become so good at what they do by accident. It took knowledge of the game to understand how best to tape it. Too bad ESPN didn't have Pat and his crew producing all these shows for the last ten years or so. Oh well, in a perfect world........

We were going to do it at Derby City.

Wow!

:bow-down: That is one absolutely awesome setup Pat's got there! I'm sincerely jealous now! :bow-down: All I can say is "WOW"! :joyful:

TIP: Anyone that wants to learn more about true strategy in any of the games....order the right DVDs (the ones Pat says too) for their "Video of the Month" club...best deal out there.

That Fleming-Mathews match video is a great tape for seeing what Pat can do (he hits very thin cut break-shots like they're nothing!), and for learning about 14.1 from the player commentary. I'd definitely recommend it.

Pat is a great player, I always wished he played more. I believe he ran his first 100 ball run when he was 15 years old against Ray Martin!

He has a good instructional tape called 'The Creative Edge' in which he shows maybe 10 or 12 shots that you usually don't see on your average instructional tape.

Thanks for the tip. I will put that on my list.
