Pat Johnson and John Barton Meet - World Does Not Explode

Well Pat picked me up from the motel on Sunday night and we went to iconic Chris' Billiards in Chicago to play some and talk about CTE.

As you can see we survived.

Like Pat I wish we had played more and talked less about aiming. While Pat did not really budge on his fundamental positions I did come to see his side of things a little more.

And essentially his side of things is pretty simple - CTE works for individual players but no individual person has to date been able to write down a set of instructions on how to do CTE that works for other players. Did I get that right Pat?

Now, I want to inject at this point that when Pat and I discussed CTE that I was only relaying to him what I consider to be CTE since I didn't learn it from Hal Houle or Dave Segal or Stan or anyone else directly. So what I do when I use CTE may not be the "correct" way to implement it.

Which is Pat's point in a nutshell.

He doesn't deny that people are making balls with CTE and making great shots and running out. He simply says that Ghost Ball and other aiming systems are geometrically correct and can be used to easily diagram ANY shot on the table to the satisfaction of EVERYONE. This point is indisputable.

To date that same thing cannot be said of CTE. Whether CTE CAN be used to diagram any shot is has not yet been shown. The fact is that it hasn't been yet.

Pat did not use CTE or any other aiming system. For the games we did play I was his RACK BOY with the exception of one single one pocket game where I managed to make a few good shots.

No video. I abandoned it after a few minutes in as I would rather just talk and not try to be a videographer at the same time. Pat also didn't want to be shown as he is still undercover waiting to trap a millionaire who thinks he can win with CTE. :-)

So I might have a little bit showing Pat's hands as he is running out. Otherwise just take my word for it that Pat can play.

Although....Mike Page you definitely have action any time you want to bet on a serious matchup between me and Pat if we play one pocket. I think I have a slight edge there.

Anyway, Pat Johnson exists, he's cool, he can play and thank you Pat for taking the time so late at night to hang with me for a couple hours.

Great post John,

You're spot on with your reflection about Pat. Something a lot of us have known for years.

John,

I'm glad PJ really exists, and I'm glad he "gave you a good game." I would have expected him to. It sometimes actually helps to know a lot about pool and be passionate about the game, like PJ is.

I wish I could have been there too. Let me know if you ever plan to visit Colorado in the future.

Regards,
Dave

I think there's one photo of Pat floating around the internet. Maybe.

Pat also visited the Derby City Classic this year (or was that last year?).

Yikes! I'm wasn't concerned about the world exploding when you two met but I was almost ready to overload my mouth and call Pat out for some one pocket action. Whew! I'm glad you pushed him out of the closet.

I'll hold onto my dough and stick to matching up with The GingerBread Man.

Pat may occasionally come off as a rasping kind of guy but I think when it comes to discerning and getting to the truth about billiards, he is more like a Samurai sword than a rasp.

I could swear I heard a chorus of Kumbaya in the distance as I was reading your post, JB.

Seriously, I'm glad to hear that you two met and enjoyed each others' company.

Dag nab it. Dag nab it? ? ???????????

Where did I hear "Dag nab it"?????

I got it!!!

Gabby Hayes..... right?

Joey,

I have played you at one hole and you have the edge on Pat as far as I can tell. Pat is someone who loves one pocket like I love one pocket, for it's unendign creative opportunities. He doens't love pocket like YOU love one pocket for the thrill of pounding someone's ego into the rubber as you lighten their wallet. :-)

Just kidding as I am sure you love one hole for the same reasons.

Some day we really really need to organize a real Forum Tournament. Wouldn't it be great to do that with some real prize money. Something like $2000 first place? Entry fee is post count by x-date.

That way no ringers. If you are a forum contributer with enough posts you get to play.

Pretty sure the three of us and Jay already qualify. ;-)

Hahahaha!

You're not going to hook me with that post number thing. I would be paying for all the minimalists lurkers.

Besides, you've already outted Patrick and I'm not buying that bs about me having an edge over him. You have no idea how much my game has deteriorated over these past years.

Today, I would have a tough time playing Dippy Dave even one pocket.
(Make sure he is invited) Variety is the spice of life.

Thinking about that, maybe we should have the minimalist posters send in the big dough entry fee.......I mean afterall, they have to contribute something to the AZB tournament.

I'm thinking of a few players that regularly post on here that I would just love to play some even one pocket with.

Best regards,
JoeyA

I thought he meant that only those with X number of posts could play.

I'll just file that information away for the time being...

Sounds like it was a fun time. Thanks for the report.
