Paul Newman

At least he was able to do what he really enjoys one last time. The man has had an amazing life and seems to be a truly great person.

That is a shame. The Hustler is still one of my favorite movies and I watch it at least once a year. It still amazes me he did not win an Oscar for his role.

That is truly sad news. Paul Newman is one of the finest actors in American cinematic history. He is a LEGEND!!! And he will be sorely missed.

But kudos to him for wanting to live his last days without being confined to a hospital bed.

Truly missed. :sorry:

One of my favorite Paul Newman movies is/was Cool Hand Luke. Saw it when it first came out. I musta been ~18 y/o.

Remember this scene??? DAMN, that girl knew how to suds up a car!! :groucho:

The Hustler is a great film but he also starred in I think one of the best films of ALL time. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. If you have never seen, do yourself a favor and put it at the top of your Netflix Q or run out and rent it...I am not joking, go.

A great actor played the role of a great pool pro.

I remember Paul Newman in lots of great movies, he was definitely a gorgeous man and he left behind many hours of great entertainment for all of us. I also have an instructional pool video made by "Fast Eddie" himself, probably in his 70's in the video. Learned a lot from that video. Thanks for the memories Paul.

I have prayed for some kind of cure for this terrible illness...this is just terrible for him and others in his condition...

Life just doesn't make sense..........

The only reason is because West Side Story won all the awards that year.

He in an awesome actor, besides the Hustler and some others mentioned I liked Nobodys Fool alot,it was a great movie. He has given so much back and has lived a life we all wish we could have had,its too bad they dont give him a last hurrah party like when they have those Roast for people on tv.

This sucks... Cool Hand luke.....The man had GAMBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Hustler, was voted the best sports movie ever, and this would have been up against some of the greatest movies of all times.

The Hustler also spurred the pool industry like had never been seen before. The newer, more family oriented pool rooms started opening accross the country, and Brunswick started adding a pool room area to their bowling alleys, thanks to this movie.

The Color of Money, not as good a movie as the Hustler, probably did more for pool than any single event in the history of pocket billiards.

I was selling pool tables and accessories at the time (1986), and it was well-known that businesses doubled in sales. Pool rooms were springing up all over the country. I know five new rooms that opened in Palm Springs alone.

What this man has done for pool he will probably never understand, and without him as Fast Eddie those movies would have never had the success or staying power.

After the Hustler came out, I watched anything and everything that Paul Newman was in, going back to The Left Handed Gun and Somebody Up There Likes Me. I know he was nominated for 8 or 9 academy awards before he finally was given one for the Color of Money, and this one the Acadamy gave to him because he had been left out for so long.

Here are some movies that I believe Paul Newman deserved an academy award.

The Hustler
Hud
Cool Hand Luke
The Verdict (especially)
Nobody's Fool

I know you'll never read this email, but thanks, Paul. You'll never know how much you mean to pool players throughout the world.

He's an Academy Award winner, a 9 times Academy Award nominee.
He's a Golden Globe winner and a 9 (or 10) time Golden GLobe nominee.
He also won an Emmy some years back.

There is no doubt that Paul Newman is one of the finest actors the silver screen has ever seen.

It'll be a sad day when he passes on.
