Picked this up in a pawn shop today, don't know anything about it. I can't find any markings anywhere, has a 3/4 inch ferrule. I took the best pictures I could, but there's not very much to go by. Thanks in advance if anyone knows anything.

Pawn cue

Judging by the wrap, it is not an expensive cue, but could have some age on it. Doubt if the white is ivory also. You didn't get hurt if you spent 10 to 20$ on it IMO.

The cue is made Adam Custom Cues, it is not a high end model. But the bumper, wrap, Pin and the over all designs screems Adam.

You probably know better than I do, but it seems very Heubler-like to me. Although every one I have seen has their name in the buttcap.

thanks for all the info, guys.

You buy these things by the case.

are you guys saying the wrap discredits the Adam or Heubler cue possibility?

For sure not a Huebler. Could be an Adams but I highly doubt it. I would say 99% sure it is a China cue, no real value. Does it play well?

Can't see Paul Heubler ever allowing nylon wraps.
Adams has farmed out some low line products made by the 'generic' people
..but I've yet to see nylon even on these

Brunswick has actually put their name on some nylon wraps....but they
haven't made a quality cue for a long time.
The best Brunswicks I've seen since Rambow are made by Joss or Falcon.

Haven't gotten a chance to play with it yet. Hopefully will this evening.

And thanks for the help pt109 and everyone else.

A few questions for future pawn shopping.
How do you distinguish between nylon and linen wraps so readily?
I'm learning cue makers and brand names, but with unmarked cues what else should I look for to shy away from cheap older production cues? This one appeared well made and was pretty cheap with a case so I picked it up. No regrets so far, but I haven't played with it yet, which will be the real test.

These days Pawn Shops are pretty wise to a nice pool cue. I think when they are in doubt they just over price them. The good stories about pawn shop cues are few and far between. I mean if they question a cue maker these days they just hop onto the internet and BAM they find the most knowledgable people on AZ that will tell them the value of the cues. I did the whole pawn shop thing going all around town. It was a waste of fuel.. If you frequent AZ enough you will find some very good deals. I would get familiar with cues on AZ before you go out and try to find a gem in a pawn shop. There are more cheap cues out there than quality, just keep that in mind.

The early Balabushka cues have Nylon wraps, as did many decent vintage cues. Viking and McDermott used them very frequently back in the 70's and eighties.

You are correct, my first viking cue, which I purchased in the late 80's, maybe early 90's, had a nylon wrap and it was a very good production cue.

Of course, they were also the reason that I would never buy a cue with a nylon wrap again, too, because it started to unravel...lol. But it was a quality cue; and I am sure the wrap unraveling was my fault.

I realize all this. That's why I went with the unmarked one I thought seemed well made. They might not know what they had, of course I didn't either, but it was a cheap gamble so why not.

Its an Adam ST-2 Basking. Its from the "Shark Teeth" line late 70's very early eighties.

my hat is off to you sir, quite impressed. Did this cue not come with the logo or was it removed. What gives its identity away to you if you don't mind my asking?

Also, went and shot a few balls with it this evening. The weighting/balance on it seems different than what I'm used to, but it shot real nice.

Guess I better re-phrase that...
..I haven't knowingly seen a nylon wrap on a quality cue.
When I see nylon, I just walk away...assuming it's driftwood.
Nylon is hard on the hand, could end up drawing blood in a long session.

And are you sure about Balabuska using nylon? I'm not disagreeing, I just
hope he didn't.:shocked2:
Hopefully it was silk.
I had a 1915 Brunswick with a silk wrap...could be mistaken for nylon.
Traded it for 3 good cues from Murphey out of Texas.
One of those really satisfying deals...we were both happy

The pawn shops here are nuts, they had one of the White Cuetecs (similar to the Allison Fisher signature cue) and wanted $100 for it and it was beat to chit and came with a crappy case. I just laughed and walked out. Most do not have cues around here that I know of. I just wished I could find a cue that I would even buy here. They had two Falcons I think and wanted outrageous prices like the Cuetec.
