pawn shop score. lucasi and a mali

I was out today shopping for a lawnmower when I noticed the pawn shop next to sears was open. Always like to browse for good deals on guns well I didnt find any.

I saw a pool case behind the counter leaned up it was old and cracked on the vinyl on the outside of the case.

I asked to see it. The lady handed it to me when I opened it up the first cue I noticed was a lucasi that I had previously looked at purchasing from ozone billiards. The next one in there was a brand I had never heard of, Mali.

I figured for $70 the lucasi that I was going to buy at one time for $350 was worth the deal. So I got to the parking lot with my new sticks in hand got in my truck and googled mali cues. They were made from 68-01 and could be pretty valuable. This cue is not in mint condition but overall not bad shape one dent and the mali logo is a faded a little on the l.

here are some pictures can anybody help me on what this cue might be valued at?

good score.........I heard of mali....but I think the ''luke'' is worth more.:thumbup:
 
It might be. But its worth checking into. Ive gotten some decent scores from pawn shops. Last year I bought a buddy hall series lucasi for $55

And I had got a pechauer jp series in 2013 for 80

The Mali is from the 90s and not desirable. Well under $100. Maybe a bit over, depending on the shaft.

The Lucasi used is $150 on a good day.
 
Pawn shop bargains

I have heard of these unbelievable deals where someone got a good cue stick from a pawn shop for really cheap.........I myself have never seen any great cues or bargain cues when I happened upon a pawnshop......

Maybe someone can tell me how a pawnshop proprietor could miss on the true value of a cue and unknowingly sell a cue for a lot less than it's worth?

I mean, isn't it important for the proprietor to research these things and know the price of whatever he's buying/selling? (being that it's his livelihood)

The only thing I could think of as to why he would sell at a bargain price would be just to knowingly get rid of it, if it's been sitting around for a long time.

Arrogance and Ignorance.

These guys are convinced that name recognition is everything. This is why you see McDermott's and Meucci's absurdly overpriced and some of the lessor know cues or custom cues being moved for next to nothing.

I've found a few decent production cues but all my big scores have been custom cues where the shop lists it as unknown. Or the occasional 1-piece Titlist that they think is a cheap house cue.
 
A couple years ago, I scored 3 Predators. A Predator sneaky with a 314-2, an older black (ebony ?) Predator with minimal inlays, and a Predator break cue, with a 3x6 case, for around $350 total.

Already had a sneaky, and the shaft on the black was turned down.

Sold those and the 3x6 on the 'bay for about $550.

You need to shop around and buy off a small dealer to get your best price.

Around five years ago, I'd see that Lucasi pop up on Ebay for $100 dollars.


And an old Mali with no points really isn't anything special.

Pool cues for sale and cats are free....

If I was to sell them. I would sell the Mali for $70 -$3 paypal and -$13 shipping. I would sell the lucasi for $90-100 -$4 paypal and -$13 shipping. It probably would take a whole to get those prices on this site though.

IMO, production cues are immediately worth about 1/2 of retail.

If you paid $350, I would suggest it is worth about $175.

I got a Harvey Martin plane Jane cue at an estate sale on my street last year for $1. My friend skierlawyer was so excited I gave it to him.

I found a McDermott C-21 in a pawn shop for a ridiculous price. I even talked them down on what they were asking.... Ya gotta seize the moment. Know what you want and be ready to strike.
 
These guys are close on the value of these cues. You got a good deal for $70. I would put a high dollar value at $250 and low dollar of $150. So figure the fair market value of both cues should be around $200.
 
As long as you are happy, that is all that matters.

Try finding a Scruggs, a Palmer Tiltlist, a Dale Patten PJ and a Capone PJ and not spending over $80 on any one cue.

I've spent more on Production cues at pawnshops than customs, because most pawn shops don't know pool cues, plain and simple.
