i recall the 2002 BCA, sitting and talking with Randy G. regarding the long, straight in draw shot - such as the one below.

Randy,
if you will recall, the first thing you asked me was "What Is Your Perception Of The Shot?" and at the time i wasnt exactly sure what you were getting at. i suppose the things that goes through my mind today when confronted with this shot are:
1) uh oh.........
2) have to aim and stroke straight
3) have to give it a little extra "oomph" to get the draw

anyway, Randy, what exactly were you getting at here? what does Perception entail?

DCP,

You are looking too deep when the answer is right at the surface. This shot is no harder and no easier than most. Right now you perceive it as hard and it is.

I can take a twelve year old who doesn't shoot pool and spend ten minutes with them and have them making that shot over and over. I'd tell them this is the easiest shot in pool and where everybody starts and once you can do this we move on. With no excess baggage and no bad habits they will simply take my word for it and shoot the shot. The same is true of many lady beginners. With no preconceptions they simply do what they are told to do and get the results they expect.

You have told yourself the shot is hard and reinforced that thought by typing it out. Guess what, until someone persuades you otherwise the shot is hard for you. I suspect that your time with Scott will be money well spent before you are ten minutes into the session.
