i am cutting the tenon on the cnc with a 3/4 inch router bit it leaves a flawless shoulder then using white gorilla glue thread it on tightening it on
very firmly. even though this sounds simple i was just trying to give a tip that i found works better then any lathe tool i ever used. Ive seen many ferule installs over the years and non have looked this good it impressed me very much. i am also doing butt and joint rings this way now also

I'm sorry. The live tooling part is a good idea, but it's got to be easier done by whipping out the same tooling used to cut wrap grooves.
I've already got a couple of routers set up for the Aloris toolpost.

What kind of g-code are you going to use?
g1 f6 x-.1?

I'd much rather keep my cnc doing something a little more substantial.
Just can't see cnc having something extra to do with the flawless shoulder.
If it does, please explain.

no matter what you in a lathe the cnc with a cutter spinning so fast
will do a flawless job on the shoulder .takes afew seconds to set up
and run it manualy no program needed

once you try this you will never use a lathe to cut a tenon again!!!!!

cnc tenon
thread tenon
white gorilla glue
thread on tightly using pliers not to much twist but very firm
no glue line at all!

Nice ferrule job.......they should all look like that, don't they?
Ferrule glue lines are the product of two things....using the wrong cutter and using the wrong glue....IMO

I would like to see a picture of your router set up and making the shoulder cut of the tenon. You making the cut horizontal or vertical to the shaft?
What rpms are you running on both the lathe and the router?
You running the lathe forward or reverse?

I suppose I could do some testing and find all these out myself....but I figure, why not ask?

<~~~already using the router for other things....why not add to the list....

The day I get too lazy to use this, I'll quit.

Got that, but since I'm threading with the bed of the lathe, I might as well face square of that and cut to tenon size with it.

very simple i just move the router across the tip of the shaft and bach using a 3/4 router bit using the dro on mach 3 the make the adjustments
once set up cut and replace shaft evry 45 seconds til your done it gets great results with little effort

OK Lee.....I understand all that........
Is the router mounted horizontal or vertical to the shaft?

Bottoming router bit and cutting from the Z plane, Lee?

here is an idea for you lee. Set up 2 routers on the post one to do the shoulder and one to do the threads computer controlled all you have to do is center the shaft. That imo would be the cat's azz.
