PerformStars AI computer vision algorithms for Pool

Pretty cool stuff indeed.
Yep.
He has a lot of player data already, it looks for new videos and automatically analyses the match.
Obviously he must be reviewing it before updates, but shows potting accuracy, pot percentage, break results and a bunch of other stats about shot distances etc.
It even detects where the cueball is being hit for english.

p.s. I will get this thread moved to Main, I was browsing Main then NPR, got distracted and posted here. Lol...
A pool related thread in NPR. Ha ha..

That would make watching a match more interesting!
Yep, and would provide instruction to people wanting to learn more.

I hope he gets more support, this reminds me of software back in the day for tennis.
Hawk-eye in the early days.
Went on to become mainstream and settled calls as well.
Expanded to cricket, snooker and other sports.

But this takes it to another level.

I'll have to do some searching but there is another company doing similar things a friend told me about.

I want to see computer chips in cue balls so we can tell what kind of spin is being applied and how much.

Cool, sounds interesting.

Football, sorry, not calling it soccer.. lol... did that with their balls.
Some crazy RPM on some shots.
Sorted out some close goals with crossing the line.

With pool, as long as the center of gravity is unaffected it should be even easier to put RFID tech, accelerometers into resin.
Might be possible with just cameras though.
Anyway, things like that would only be practical for professional level events as whatever solution is used could need lots of specialised equipment setup.

I think they should partner with Virtual Pool. VP already has an AI player, and I'm pretty sure the VP physical model is beyond what performstars has done.

A lot of similar work was done by Ira Lee to the extent of putting impact sensors in the cushions and listening for ball-ball impacts with microphones.

Thanks, I will read up on that.
