Personal Cues

I've heard some strange construction techniques for getting an extremely nice feeling hit out of a cue in the past. For the cuemakers that have been in the business for a while I have a question for you:

Does your personal cue differ in construction than the usual custom cue's basic design? Whether it differs or not what features are a must for your cue as far as physical aspects (tip types, ferrule types, grip types, anything dealing with feel)?

Nope. Just a normal $1200.00 sneaky pete.

Mine is only a $750 sneaky pete.
With:
-Rosewood butt
-weight in the points for forward balance
-ABS partial cored forearm to quiet the "hit"
-SW style big pin into ABS
-314 cored & sleeved at both ends
-Grice ferrule (don't ask, you can't get anymore)
-Sniper
-soft plastic faux ivory joint collars for a "softer" hit
:D :D :D
I could go on...just normal stuff.;)

Simple is most certainly better in your design Tucker. It's not even simple... it's elegant.

I like the idea of putting more weight forward and I've heard grice ferrules give it a seriously soft feel... maybe too soft ;) What's wrong with the Z-shafts by the way? I usually see 314's on custom cues; is there something fundamentally advantageous to them over the Z's? I've used both and absolutely prefer the Z (I haven't experienced either 2nd generation shaft however). Thanks for the responses.

Gerda, spent a lot of time with the Z...she went back to the 314.;)
The Z is so skinny its very unforgiving on a slightly mis-hit ball.

My cue is a sneaky pete with an oil finish and no ferrule, no rings, no collars. As basic as it gets.

No ferrule? Why? Just curious.

I wanted to try it after hearing about Bob Jewett playing with a cue that way. I've been trying it ever since. (same shaft, about 2 years now) :D

No problem. I'll send you one to use.

I'm not a Cuemaker but,

Here is my personal "converted" playing cue.....not really a SP more of a Hustler style. It's an old bar cue we had lying around the Pub. I just about got it finished; using Tung Oil. It shoots pretty good ;)

I'm a sloppy chalker so the no ferrule don't work for me. I have 1/2 long very thin wall ferrules on mine.

Damn. I guess my playing cue is not standard like the poster was asking.

I'll take it so you can make yourself a more standard model.

Joey,

What type of hard backer you're using? I might want to try it since I got a few spare shafts for experimenting.

Snookered <=== curious

How about a pic too!?

How about some more pics too

Hey Murray....what kinda material did you use for the white ringwork?
