DOES PERSONALITY MATTER IN YOUR PURCHASE OF A CUSTOM CUE MAKER? met tony for the first time at vf,I like his cues, but because he sold out to lucky, makes me feel like he is a traitor. and he is his own biggest fan!HE TOOTS HIS HORN TO THE EXTENT THAT IT COMES OUT AS A SYMPHONY! i would rather have a manzino or arthur que in a heart beat! and then there are other cuemakers because if there personility that makes you feel proud to own one , like tim scruggs, szamboti, chris nitti and andy gilbert!! tell me your opinion

Yes it does. Somewhere in 2001, I ordered a cue from a well known cue maker. There is one top ranking player also using his cue at that time, not now. I made a deposit for the cue. He promised the cue will be ready in 8 months. After eight months, I contacted him, he told me it's half done. So i waited another 4 mths. When I contact him again, he told me the shafts are still not completed. So i waited again. The last excuse he gave me was that his relative had pass away and told me he would contact me once the cue is done but never had. I got fed-up that I decided to forget the whole thing. I never ask for refund. And he never contacted me ever since. Once in a while his cues do pop up in ebay or secondary market, but I had lost interest in his cue.

SAD!! VERY SAD!!!

Who is this pillar of virtue?

This can also happen to the best of us also , sometimes these cuemakers take on to much work and cant complete in their given timeframe or even sometimes problems arise as does in everyday life....... I have had such delays from cuemakers but if you are interested in their work the delay is just a "bump in the road" and the rewards are usually great......:)

Cuemakers

Yes, some cuemakers are not very accomodating and some are--just like people you meet on the street. Kind of like the actor syndrome--some are really nice when you meet them and others are A$$H**s. Some become all about the dollar and some remember that pool is really not a millionaire game and remember their and its roots. Custom cues are in a really sad state right now I feel. Bryan Mordt BCM cues, Dan Dishaw, Bill Dominiak, Bob Frey, Andy Gilbert, Kenny Murrell, Mike Stacey, Kerry Zylr...this is a list of cuemakers that I have personally spoken at great lengths with about cues and are truly excellent people to talk to and their cues are tremendous values--theyre not standoffish and dont mind having a extended and multiple conversations with you about their work.

I agree. The cuemakers who have "sold out" to the overseas buyers have basically turned their backs on the people who have supported them when they were perfecting their craft. I understand their motivation, but, probably won't do business with them. Some of the cuemakers out there believe that they are they only ones who can build a cue and sometimes will not listen to their customers, believing that they know better. Won't deal with them either.

people like joel, barry, could sell out at any time they wanted to the overseas market for more money! but they love there trade and choose to sell to us! and they have great personalitys wich makes me want to own more!!to sell out to another country and make a deal not to make ANYTHING for americans at any price, like black boar !that is kinda pooping where you sleep! what do you think? this is a good thread!

Joel, Barry, Dennis, Richard B, Pete O., Jim W., Mike G., Bob O., Dan J., Paul D., Art C., Markus, and Joe B. are cue people who were great to talk to at Valley Forge this year. They were very accomodating, and were very appreciative of their customers AND their good fortune at making a living doing something they really enjoy.

They make me want to buy one of their cues. Guess that's my answer to the question of this thread.

There are probably some more, but I have to think for a while to remember them.

All I have to say is talk to Mike Webb.

Read his posts in the cuemakers section and tell me hes not sharing some good information. (and breaking balls)

His cues play very very well and are only getting better.

Top notch guy and artist/cuemaker.

He is from Germany but he is from EuroWest.

Paul,

Mike is definitely a great guy and his cues are playing as well as anyone out there. It's the honesty and integrity that keeps me going back.

See. I knew I would forget someone. Mike Webb should be on the personality list.

Right Scott, Thanks for reminding me. My sincere apology to Mr.Petree and whoever the new owner of the cue... i hope he enjoys it.

Great guys

My favorate to talk to is Timi .But a close second is definately Bill Schick,Both have a genuine likeability and will get and give a good laugh fun people to talk with never know what will come up. And any time you have 20 miniutes to kill try Dennis you will want to order a cue but he will want to explain that what he makes is no differant than what everyone makes that says it all very humble a genius really..I have been around pool my whole life and a unknown but thies guys are a breath of fresh air. Last but not least would be Jerry Rauenzahn he treats everyone like a friend and we all appreciate it you come away thinking he really will do anything he can for you.Cue makers that were road players just have a likeability they learned because they had to be nice to get action! You have to get people to lke you so they will gamble and lose and still enjoy themselves. And I can't leave out Bob Frey, great guy! On that note dabee dabee dats all folks. Nick
