Phenolic pins

Anyone who can comment on how they play vs. steel? What's the downside? I believe that Chudy used them for awhile. I'd appreciate any response.

Yes. Are there other types?

Yes.....

Well, no....

What I mean is that Phenolic is not used to make joint pins. At least not that I'm aware of. And, G10 is not phenolic, but it is used to make joint pins. They do get mixed up from time to time.

G10 pins do play pretty well. They are much lighter than the typical steel or brass pin. They also tend to flex a little more than the metal pins would.

There is also carbon fiber pins as I had some made. They are a lot smoother than the G10 pins, the only problem is carbon fiber is expensive. By the time I bought the CF rod and paid to have the pins made it was like $20.00 each my cost but they sure are nice.

I can't tell if G 10 pins flex but I can tell you that I changed a SS pin to a G 10 and the feel of the hit did change to a crisper feeling............

Thanks for your input. I am looking at an Arthu cue with a weird pin. It is white and cloud, not dark like the G10. Listed by Itzie in the for sale section. I love the look of the cue but very wary about the pin which looks huge

Again, thanks to all of you for your information. I guess you never know until you hit a cue, but since I've never played a G 10 pin I'm leery of making an investment in a cue I'll hate. I love an ivory joint, which, to me, feels "softer" on the hit than steel, but I've never seen this particular combination. Still haven't made an offer on the cue.

I like G10 pins and use them often in my cues. Not a big fan of the green ones, but that is strictly a color preference and has no bearing on the way the cue will play.

Good luck,
Alan
