Sorry, Dave, been away. The phenolic i'm using is canvas phenolic I buy locally. I can't recall the brand right off, but i'll look it up & let you know. It's available in linen phenolic, too, both of which are flat laminated & as such will show interesting grain patterns. It's not like the uniform patterned rolled & molded stuff Atlas sells, but it's far superior in strength & hardness. I like the ugly grainy stuff. But the main reason I use it is because of the strength & hardness. Again, when I remember the brand i'll let you know. You should be able to get it from any plastics outfit.

Wow, this forum has been funky today, double posting.

I will add that the stuff i'm using comes in rod form. I bought it in 2", 1.35", and 1".

I buy it from Altas but it is not in the catalog anymore. The "fibre" side of the business makes it. You need to call in and let them know what you need.

Good looking stuff!!! Do you use it as joint & butt material?

Yes, when requested. Chad Moses, when he still worked for Atlas, told me this stuff was "over-engineered" for cues. It is mostly used in industrial applications because of its strength.

Here's a Downey cue in process using this phenolic. It doesn't look like much now, but really pops when finish is applied.

No such thing as "over engineered". The better it is, the better the cue. Chad wasn't a cuemaker, I assume.

Well I took a chance & ordered a small bit of the canvas phenolic tubes that McMasterCarr offers...after speaking with them on the phone & they assured me it was dark brown with the canvas weave. Save your cash gentlemen....that ain't it. Ryan looks to have the secret....getting it from the "fibre" side of Atlas.
