how many people here like the idea of a phenolic tip on a break/jump cue

I don't yet have a phenolic but I'm in the market for one. My standard tip/cue has lasted me long enough and not exactly done wonders so its time for a change.

The transition from leather to phenolic tips on break cues is similar to the wood to metal drivers transition in golf....Traditionalist had a hard time excepting the sound difference between a nicely struck wood driver and the "tink" of the Tayor Made Burner and the loss workability of the golf ball....
The phenolic tip has a "glass like" feel and sound to me when breaking, and it is a little harder to control the rock...
There is however too much power and "ease" of jumping a ball not to have one...
I have phenolic tip on my b/j.

No Meucci...I like the Fury and Sledgehammer for my explosive power stuff.
(Got 19 1/2 mph last week...I think I can catch 20 with new slick cloth)
I love the phenolic tip for my jump cue, but i would still rather use a leather tip for my breaks.
I break with a Sledgehammer style (Mike Sigel Custom) cue and have been told that I have a very good break. I usually make a ball or two and get a decent spread. I can't break from the side with it, however, due to the fact that the cueball goes off the table too often, so I don't have confidence in that stroke. When I want to break from the side, I use a cue I have with a standard tip. As for jumping, the phenolic ferrule definitely will do the job easily although I seldom try a jump shot. Growing up as a snooker player, I never jumped a ball and am much more comfortable with a kick shot or a screw shot (masse').

I have been struggling with this my self as of lately, I have a Jerico stinger www.jericocues.net that has a phenolic tip with a standard ferrule that breaks like a cannon and can clear a full ball less than a ball away, but when I break with the Jerico I don't have the confidence in my stroke that I have when I break with a Hicks that I had made a few years ago with Triangle tip. I have been told by several people that the Hicks is one of the most solid break sticks that they have ever used, and when I play on the bar table tounaments here locally I usually just use the hicks because it plays really well too, But when I need to jump its the jerico all the way, I recently started replacing my own tips and have been experimenting, I have a jump cue from arthur Queue in Germany that had a hard buffalo tip on it that didn't jump well at all so I put a phenolic tip on it now it jumps as good as any other jump cue, I have also noticed one thing about the phenolic tips is that in my opinion that they have more power and better control when they are mounted on a ferrule I have tried the one piece tip/ferrule before and did'nt really notice any great difference in my break or jumps that's why it took so long for me to switch to it but once I hit with that jerico and seen the results of having a standard ferrule. I am sold on the advantage that a phenolic tip has as far as jumps go, I have noticed that you can break slower with a phenolic tip and get just as ood of results but still in my head its a confidence thing,

I don't know. I have never hit with the Predator break cue. I can't stand to see that big "cat" on there.
I use a Lucasi J/B cue that I changed the weight bolt to get it to the weight that works best for me. I have not had any problems with the phenolic tip...I actually don't hardley even chalk it as it does not hold chalk very well....Just Stay center ball...which is where you want to be anyway for the most power transfer to the CB....I have a grand total of $150 into the cue and other than the sound, it breaks as good as anything els I have ever tried.
