What do you guys think of this news from azbilliards?
Germany, the US, Chinese-Taipei and the Philippines
It may give a clue on what we're debating here.

Manila to Host Four Nation Team Event in Pool

The chairman of the Billiards & Snooker Congress of the Philippines and Billiards Digest “Man of the Year” Yen Makabenta is planning a big four-nation team event in pool to be hosted by Manila sometime around July to September.

Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today learned that the four team tournament would feature the top four pool playing nations – Germany, the US, Chinese-Taipei and the Philippines.

The idea is to pit the top countries in the world against each other which would hopefully lead to a type of pool Olympiad.

Makabenta whose Raya Sports staged the highly successful 2006 World Pool Championships at the Philippine International Convention Center in cooperation with ESPN and several major sponsors bannered by the Department of Tourism which also drew commendations for its support of such a prestigious international event indicated he “wants to test it here in Manila first” and revealed that there were a couple of interested sponsors.

The success of the WPC was heightened by the dramatic victory of lanky Ronnie Alcano who defeated German ace Ralf Souquet in the finals before a wildly cheering hometown crowd and millions more watching on television.

The plan tentatively calls for staging the four-nation showdown sometime before the 2007 World Pool Championship which returns to Manila from November 3-11.

sounds to be a great idea..only that some big names will be left out..like whre's alex pagulayan playing canada or r.p.?, and Django Busta, will he play for Germany?....and so on....why not make that multi-nations event....away from the olympics since the sports body doesn't recognize pool and billiards anyway....

Sorry Joey. I wasn't there last night but was told, by a customer, that LeeVan Beat Django in the finals 12-3. Sizzling! Oh, Jay, Roy and Chris were there so they can probably fill in some details.

No Dennis but Jharome and Andam joined the fray. Dennis seems to be in a slump lately. He was here the other day and told me that he seems to be undercutting a lot. He had his moori tip replaced as he said that it gets real hard in long sessions causing him to miscue in later matches. Tried a different tip but still ndercutting so he's replacing his hybrid shaft.

Hi,

Was at Efren's Magic yesterday. Alcano and Manalo had to pass, and Ardam got one spot and there was one w.o.

Was played double elimination, race to 11.

Had to go before the final, was too much smoke in there... But what a match between Efren and Bustamente, Efren takes the lead 2 - 0, and gets a shot again at 7 - 2 I think it was. That's pretty strong in 10-ball...

I saw someone wrote that another country will be dominating pool when Efren retires: Forget it, there are sooooo much talent here that I am shocked... Never seen anything like it... just get some travel visas to these people, and they will kill all the interest for pool because they are just too good...

I have played Efren in one-pocket again. I was eating breakfast (5 pm) at the poolhall, an old guy walked in and asked for Roy. I said it was me, and he said Efren had sent him because Efren wanted to ask if I would play him again! Pretty cool, said yes, got beaten the first 2 sets, beat him 3 - 1 in the third set with Bustamente sitting ringside and applauding, lost 3 - 2 in the fourt set. Played double or nothing race to 13 in 9-ball, I got 5 games on the wire and lost 13 - 10.

Roy,

Even if The Efren is taking your money (ooppss sorry, losing your bet) everytime, is it really that exciting just to be able to play against him?

I have played 4 days with Efren now, for about 12 hours, and lost about 300 $ and won about 70 $ from him. So in total 230 $ for 12 hours to get a chance to play the best player in the world, with f.ex Bustamente watching ringside, with referees, and a big crowd watching too.

I think Allison Fisher charges 70 $ an hour for lessons... What would you choose? :) (Remember that since Efren is playing cheap sets he practice on magic shots he would never done in high-stake matches, so there is a lot to learn just by playing him...)

Haven't got any photos yet, but doesn't matter. The memories in my head will be saved forever :)

I can't believe Django couldn't do the tango with LeeVan. Even I made him do the Watoosi recently but really was just lucky. Thanks for the update. I love to hear about the action between Pinoy's and all the talk about who is best at gambling at pool is DA HAMMER.
