Hey guys, check out this southwest i picked up for a friend, can you guys offer a reason as to why no one bid on it? Is $1700 not a good price? Just wondering as to the lack of interest on this cue, or was it just the present market for high end cues?

Well either way, my friend will be happy with it. Read story below for some humor.

southwest

Heres a funny story:

First i offered the guy $1500 (oh well why not try) He said this:
A: "Hi, If your offer is serious, thanks but no thanks. If your offer was intended as a joke, I'm laughing. If it was meant as an insult, you succeeded. Bill Oates--Florida"

Someone else messaged him with this message:
Q: I would like to buy this cue and dont wish to pay $1700. please let me know if it doesn't sell and I will make you a offer . Thanks Jimmy Apr-07-06
A: Thanks, very kindly for your interest, but I'm not destitute. If the cue doesn't bring 1700 or more, I'll keep it. I'd rather use it for a tomato stake then give it away. Thanks again, Bill Oates

So Then i offered him $1750 shipped. Answer:
A: " NO "

Final total for the cue: $1730 shipped

i think his lower feedback and unrelated cue stuff turned people off... i also had conversations with him as i was concerned about a 21.x weight on a maple nosed cue... he did respond his scale may be wrong late last nite... if i didn't have to bring my kids to DR this morning i may have been bidding against you :-) Glad to see an AZ'er got a good deal... from what i can tell the cue is as stated and probably not 21.x oz and more like 19 and change... shafts are 3.8 as i had him email me the weights...
one other- maple nosed SW bring ALOT less than others... ebony being the most sought after and brings the highest premium...
let us know how the cue is when ya get it!!

as far as his kinda grumpy responses--- i'm sure he was getting alot of email offers and just got sick of responding so he picked yours and put them up... i know how he feels.... everyone wants something for nothing on ebay...

Do Southwest cues have a weight bolt? As 21.1 ounces is pretty heavy.

I think maybe it will be lighter

i don't think they use weight bolts but as long as a cue is center balanced, like Josey cues for example, the 21 ouces is not bad. with center balanced cues a 21 feels more like 19.5. the southwests i've owned tend to be a "slight" bottom heavy so this weight might feel a tad heavy though it's never bothered me. just my op.

Wow this guy is truely PO'ed about this transaction, read his email below. He is right, but still he should have been more conducive to an out-of-ebay transaction. I live 100 miles away from him, and could have met him with cash this weekend, if he wasnt being such a snotty seller, and was willing to work something out. READ BELOW INT HE QUOTE

I'll just send the cue by mail. I've dealt in cues, high end, for quite some time. I've owned over 100 South West cues, I still have 8 South West cues. This is the first South West cue I have ever taken a bath in, I lost alot of money on this cue and don't even have a clue why. Paypal gets $51.90 out of the 1730 you sent and your gracious enough to let me have $5.00 towards that fifty dollar debt. Tell your "buyer" the stick will be in the US Mail, as outlined in the "so called auction". Nice doin' b'ness with 'ya.

His name is "Bill Oates" from sarasota, FL

God hes livid!

I to, apoligize, but the last South West I sold on Ebay went for $8500.00 to a guy in Taiwan. I listed it on the auction forum and had to cancel the auction because of "bidders" dickin' around instead of trying to buy a quality cue. The fees that Ebay and Paypal charge are, borderline robbery. I got a little pissed about this whole, ordeal selling this cue. I should have just killed the auction and kept the stick. You would not believe some of the, outrageous, bullshit people emailed me with, wanting to know about this and that. One, Rocket Scientist, even wanted to know the weight of the shafts, for Christ's sake. Mosconi could run out from anywhere with a Brunswick Titleist and I got guys asking me why this cue is a quarter inch longer then the last South West cue they bought. Truth be known 98% of them don't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of. It's a South West cue, nuff said, your buyer made the buy of lifetime on this cue. It plays good, better then most players can play with it. It is in, dead, mint condition straight as an arrow and gives that, Bill McDaniel inlayed South West (over $1700.00) the 7 ball. That's all I got to say about that.
I'll try to get this in today's mail.

Thanx

i was the rocket scientist who wanted to know the weight of the shafts... did it to see if auction was for real-if you have the cue- you'll know the weights.... it is also weird for a southwest to weigh 21.1oz with maple forearm...

i beleive shaft wood more dense=more weight which equals better hit... i own 4-yes only 4 Southwests at this time... best/favorite shaft i use all the time is 4.2oz

I don't think he's gonna rob ya... think he's legit but what an ahole... glad he's not my neighbor :-) the sound of the gunfire woukd keep me up at nite...

That's crazy, the cue weighs 21+ oz but the shafts only weigh 3.8 oz?! That's some heavy ass maple and cocobolo...lol.

I wasn't directing anything negative toward you. I know why you asked the question. I just thought it was funny he referenced an AZ'er in his e-mail to another AZ'er without knowing it. I'm on your side, I'd want to know everything about a cue before spending that kind of money too.

Jim

no sweat.... i wasn't really offended... i must have responded right after reading the Black Boar thread....:-) <worded things like i was, but wasn't...>
thanks for responding though...

Just shows Az'ers are EVERYWHEREE-so scammerscum watch out <G>

Yep. Shaft weight has NOTHING to do with playability . . . What a STUPID question. Wish I had asked it! :D

Maybe just little defensive, huh?
