Picone White Diamond Tips for J/B Cues?

I recently purchased a few of these tips to try and I've got to say I haven't found anything out there that works as well as these do for me. Has anyone else out there tried them? Here is the link to his website. http://www.piconecues.com/index.html
I have no affilliation with Mr. Picone other than a customer of his, just thought if anyone was wanting to try a new J/B tip you might want to try this one?

I have one of his Jump/Break cues in purpleheart that was made
nearly 10 years ago and I've tried Fury,
Sledgehammer (original and McD), X-breaker (gen 1,2, and 3),
Andy Gilbert, MACE (Rick Howard), and Predator (BK 1, and 2)
and I've sold them all and kept the Picone.

I like the way the white diamond tip holds chalk so much better.

I bought a set of joint protectors from Joe a while back and he sent me a free White Diamond with them...

I had a tip mechanic put it on my J&B and I have to say I have been really pleased with it...

It has completely eliminated that shattering glass sound you get from pure phenolic tips and it holds chalk...

'Nuff said...
 
Basically there the sh!t. Break awesome, last forever, what more could you want.
 
Same here. I've actually handed a few out also, and they like them as well. Don't know how much anyone else is paying, but they are on Ebay. Both times I've won the auction, it was like $13 for 3

Cheap and they play awesome.:)
 
i think he has changed the formula for the white diamonds. a friend of mine bought some a few years ago, and I just got a few recently and they are completely different tips. the older one was a white plastic, smooth, ferrule-like material. the newer one was more cream colored, layered, with a fine weave in it. they play very differently too. the older one was what i was expecting from a white diamond, holding chalk, sound of hit, etc. the newer type felt pretty much like regular phenolic to me.
 
I've got one which fits the description of the "newer" type.

It was easy to install even without a lathe, and I am quite happy with it. Having never played anything but leathertips before, it took some getting used to the whip-crack sound it makes, but I do actually like it. It hits really hard, and since it holds chalk well, is easy to handle as a breaktip. I don't know what to expect more from a break-tip :-)

Mine was nearly free: I ordered three of them on ebay for appx. 13 USD plus shipping, and sold the rest locally, which nearly covered my own piece as well :-)

the new ones i felt were worse than phenolic. it still had the 'glass breaking' sound like phenolic, and i felt it was very slick and held chalk worse than phenolic. the old ones had more of a thud sound when you broke and held chalk well. don't know why he changed it, the old formula was a lot better.
 
I've just put one my Predator BK.

It took me nearly 2 hours to trim it flush with the ferrule using a big shaver.

Nice to read..

Joe Picone is one of pools "O.G.'s", been around pool since Moby Dick was a minnow and he is a great guy. He also makes one of if not the oldest and best Jump cues on the planet. Nice to see someone giving him his just dues. Cream always rises to the top...

Nice work!

I put one on my old BK about 2 1/2 years ago and its still going strong today.
 
nice work, esp by hand. must have been a real pain to do it manually. i do phenolics and white diamonds on a lathe and would never have the patience to do one by hand!
 
yep to all. Everyone is saying all the right things. These are awesome tips for jump/braek.

I have used the old and new ones. I am happy with both. I think they outperform standard phenolic tips and hold chalk better.

The only issue I have had with them is their tendency to pop off. This is why they were changed. The new ones glue better and have a much better chance of staying on.
 
yeah i had a problem with the old ones staying on as well. cyano didn't work, so i tried epoxy. so far so good, but i'll have to wait a bit longer to know for sure if it will hold. the new ones do seem to glue better, even with cyano. still don't really like the new ones though, i'd rather go with linen phenolic
