Great pictures

Hahaha, "10th pic from the bottom", also sometimes referred to as the 1st picture in the thread....:)

Ernie is a GREAT guy, along with bein' a lengendary cue maker. His mechanical/machining/engineering skills extend well beyond cues as well. He designs and builds amazing machines in his shop for his cuemaking and many other applications. He has designed and built parts and systems for world class open wheeled racing teams and a host of other enterprises. If you have a problem in wood or metal, Ernie can prob'ly find and build the solution.

And as for the "other" guy in the picture, someone should start a Ronnie Allen thread, it wouldn't surprise me if it rivaled the size of the funny Gif picture thread...:)

Joe

But you missed taking one of our own jrhendy. I guess he is playing well coming back today. Maybe you don't know him but he is one of the older guys. John Henderson, nice friendly fellow with glasses, gray short beard about 68 years old. See if he lost his social security checks yet. :D :D

The close-up pictures are awesome. I like the candid photos. They're the best. Thanks for your consideration.

We really appreciate seeing some of the old-timers too. Poor old guy looked like he had to hire someone to hold his cue.
OLD TIMER

Appreciation rep coming your way.

JoeyA

Jay is sick today. I wish you were here to replace me Joey. :)

Hahaha, I tried to get everyone who was playin' while I was there, but I don't know all the players. John is, I believe, from Sacramento and we have exchanged PM's a few times when he was kind enough to bring me up to speed on a bunch of the old crew I used to gamble with in my youth (long, long ago). I'm sad I missed him, woulda liked to have introduced myself. He might have not been playin' while I was there, or I mighta missed him. In any event I apologize to any I missed, perhaps he'll still be in when I get there late tonight!

Good luck to John, and all the AZ'ers still in!!

I'm gonna try and make it tomorrow night for the last of it..but hafta take the wife and brother in law to Catalina Island first....I wonder if there's any action there???.....:)

Joe

Joe.........Thanks for the pics...........Btw, I heard there's partners bridge and canasta action at the country club there - you and your wife can take it down......:D

ps, If possible, could you take and post a close-up pic of the flow chart ?.....it'd be great to see who all was in the tournament, and who knocked out who........Thanks again, Ghost

There's some strength in this field. Scott has such a high speed, but this one is no gimme for him. He'll have to earn this title. Somehow I see Rafael coming back from the loser's side to reach the final three. NO ONE has more confidence in their own game than him. And what extraordinary shots he can come with. He has amazed the crowd several times already.

I saw him make a two ball out, where he made an impossible bank cross corner (it was on the point), and then had a long side rail bank to win. SURPRISE, he cut the ball backwards up table into his pocket! I saw it and still don't believe he shot the ball that way. No ONE else would have! Not even the mighty EF!

Sylver is an up and coming champion. He never gives up and seems to win a lot of games where he is way behind. Parica is Parica, still highly skilled nearing the big 60. And then you have local heroes like One Pocket Rich and Tall Phil who aren't afraid of any of these guys. Rich loves to play the best players! And torture them!

Big John Henderson (jrhendy) is a phenomenon at age 68, only TEN YEARS older then Jose! The man has played good One Pocket for over 40 years. And he stills plays the same solid game. Joey beware of this old codger!

What a great looking room. I love watching good one pocket players go at it.........................man i wish I was there. Thanks for posting the pics.

Good pics, and it was very nice of you to post them on the forum. Is there any way that you (or anyone) could take a minute and label the pictures with each player's name? I don't recognize 60% of those guys...:o

JAM I wish you would get Keith to get on here and say a few words about Hollywood Jack. As a young man I know Keith, Cole Dickson, Jimmy Reid, Richie Florence, etc. used to be around Hollywood Billiards on Western. Jack owned the place and ran it. He is said to help out a lot of pool players in his time and up and coming stars of the game. He was a top action guy in his time and beat a lot of the old time pros for the cash. I was just lucky to meet him in the tail end of his most colorful life.

I remember Jack well. We used to play captain one pocket and captain gin. Jack was a pretty good one pocket player, and he was especially a real good card player.

Pool players did come in there and bite him for money. He was usually good for a double saw. I never asked him for money, unless he broke me playing gin, but I always paid him back.

He was good friends with Lenny Moore and Buttermilk. They used to sit down and play gin all the time. I liked Jack a lot. He used to come down to Belflower once in a while. He'd sit in the booth with Butch the owner or he'd be playing gin.

I traveled to Hollywood Billiards once in a while, just specifically to play Jack some gin. I enjoyed playing Jack. He was a gentleman gambler, and funny too, his facial expression and just the way his demeanor was. He knew a lot of Hollywood stars. Jack was well known to everybody in the movie business. That's why they called him Hollywood Jack.

Front right guy in #5 and full shot in #11 is Sylver Ochoa.

One character missing from the bunch is Tall Wayne. A top one pocket player from LA. Fears no one and has played everybody. Late comer to the game but learned real fast and now is the guy giving all the spots. Heart of a lion and no mooch in him at all.

PS Go to One Pocket. Org to see a great pic of John Henderson which my buddy demonrho posted.

Fabulous Pics, best i have seen on this site. Thanks for posting them. Curious to know what cam you are using. BTW, pic #18 of Jose, is my favorite, because it clearly shows the McDermott cue model EK-4 that he is using. I know he uses a different cue at every tourney, but just thought i would mention this, as i have just a few McD's left for sale. smiley.
