Pierce Custom Cues Logo Contest

For anyone submitting a logo it is easy to figure out if you are okay when it comes to copyright issues. First and foremost the following link to the U.S copyright office and they state that Copyright does not protect names, titles, slogans, or short phrases. However, copyright protection may be available for logo artwork that contains sufficient authorship. In some circumstances, an artistic logo may also be protected as a trademark. You may also contact them to see if a certain logo is copyrighted or can be.

The link can be found here....http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-protect.html#band

A name, slogan, or a logo can however be trademarked. You can simply go to the following links and search any trademark to see if an actual trademark exist for a particular company or brand. It can be found here http://www.uspto.gov/index.jsp

Just go to the link under trademarks that states search mark. This will give you an idea if your in the clear. To double check you can always call their office as well.

Not to get anyone mad or anything but piercyexclusives has copyrights on some of his logos such as

JP custom cues
Jp custom
Jp cues
Jp (as peachure has not put a design patent on his logo)
JP
Jp cc
Jp c
JP cc
JP c

His real name is Marshall J ( not initial just the letter ) Piercy. His earlier cues he had some of those logos on their and had them copy righted and a few trademarked.

Now I am saying this cause if someone found out that their designs were copied they could get you in trouble. And I would hate to see cuemakers in such a legal battle. I would suggest that anyone putting a logo up should think about if that picticular logo or design is copyrighted or trademarked to unsure the safty of the cuemaker. I just want to help out on the submitions and make sure your safe. Now I am not sure if any of them have expired but he hold the rights to them for at least 14 years. I know that hes a nice guy about things he might not have a problem with this. Have a good day.

Thanks in advance for the warning. If you have pictures to present that would be a great help as to not cause a conflict.

I'm sure Marshall has himself well covered as he tends to think quite far ahead in his business but without pictures of the actual logos how are we supposed to know if they are close enough in appearance to cause a conflict. Just because he claims certain words or letter combos doesn't mean the designs presented won't be unique enough to distinguish between two cue makers trademarks and subsequent work.

Sorry as I did not know this,
thanks for the heads up.

Don't forget design patent also as I know Marshall was talking about that. He said that some logos he had couldn't be covered by trademark and copyrights so he went with a design patent. So everyone might check that also. If not trademark , copyrights, then he went with a design patent.

As far as pictures of logos those for the ones that were not and could not covered by copyrights and or trademarks I do not have pics cause I do not own any of his older cues just ordered new ones they all will just have his signature. I'll ask his dad if I could have acces to the designs on his older cues.
All I know he tried to cover anything with the J in the beginning and the P following.

Pierce Custom Cues Contest: I need ideas for a "Pierce Custom Cues" logo to go on my cues. I am open to any ideas. Please upload ur logo here on AZ. The person with the chosen logo will win a custum PIERCE cue. Please submit ur logos by OCTOBER 1st 2010. Thank for ur support -Jim Pierce-

Since you're in mountain country, in the heartland of America, I thought the majesty of
the mountains and the colors reminiscent of our flag would be a pretty good logo for you.

If you design it, it's yours and is protected under copyright law unless you release it.
That is of coarse if you're not infringing.

I recently visited Marshall in the hospital for the last time before I have to go back home to GA and this is what he said if anything resembles anything he has or A&P Properties owns that he wouldn't really do anything cause that was an old logo and he would give all those rights and sign over to Pierce custom cues. Only if he picks one that the lawyer for his company finds similar to his. Wow talk about a nice guy. He said it was just going to waste why not give it to someone that could use it. Anyways have fun. I with you all the best. I also hope to see what nice designs come out of this.

Ok, now people can actually start submitting designs. The thread begins :)

This might be too elaborate but here goes

Removing the jack's profile would simplify it. I'll try and add some other variations on the theme later.

Cheers,
RG

Here's another variation on the theme. My daughter saw what I was doing and drew this up (she wants her own cue). Probably a little to much detail again

He sounds like a nice guy! Mr. Pierce offered a trade of services & I think it's cool. Once the winner is picked and the exchange of service is made, that's that Mr. P owns a logo and someone owns a cue. It is a fun and beneficial offer. Good Luck everyone!

Did I miss something? I thought we did this a month or so ago. Did you decide against the other logo or is this for something different. Sorry if this was already hashed out, or am I having a deja vu moment?!?

Here are a few new ones and variations on some that I posted earlier.

There was a contest for a logo for LP Custom Cues recently. I'll bet that is what you're deja vu'ing about. Anyway, I'm glad that Pierce Custom Cues decided to do one too. Fun stuff with a very cool prize at stake.

That contest was for Lee Peppers Custom Cues. Some doorknob idiot won that contest  . Different builder here.

Cheers,
RG

ok, now I remember, my bad. Well, good luck to everybody. Maybe I'll put in a entry later.

I liked my last one so i'll just tweak it to save time. I can refine it if you like it.
