pin glue / epoxy

I think the most overlooked, and the least stated step when gluing a pin, or any metal, is as Paul and Mike said...Proper prep. Now what does that mean? I cut a channel, and sometimes a flat on the bottom threads, I then sand down the locator barrel with 220 lightly to get scuffs then I soak every pin in denatured alcohol or acetone for about 5 minutes, brush it, and soak a bit more then remove and let dry. This removes just about any contaminations, then go ahead and glue it in. I now am using west 205, but only due to the fact I have a stock pile I need to use up. Have used 5 minute quite a bit, and honestly, had only one pin come loose and it was because I test fit it, and forgot to actually glue it in. Other than that, no issues with 5 minute. To reduce the thickness, when doing a pin, I put the bottles in the micro for 14-18 seconds and it comes out almost like water, helps reduce chances of blowout, but doe reduce working time...move fast and sure.

Good tip, I put my epoxy bottles in a tub with warm water.

I do sand a flat on the bottom threads and warm the 5 min epoxy bottles in the microwave for 10 seconds................. never a problem
