Places with a Table

I really want to learn 3C. I would be willing to travel anywhere between Philly and NYC. I prefer a place in NJ but it is not the end of the world. I don't see myself as a competitor but I figure the games precise cue ball movement and knowledge of the table can only help me

You are in for a treat, a suprise, and some anguish.

Beautiful game and you are in the right area for it.

Thank you mr.3Kushion. These are all reasonable drives. I can't believe I skimmed over that. I watched the game at the expo last year and really wanted to try it. I waited so long but here I am. I have a strong respect for billiards as it is the old way to play

Tom say:The new USBA site is a little more difficult to sort the room listing.

Z says: You don't know how expensive the new site is vs. the old site.
So it can't be the new site that is the problem. It must be you:wink:

Maybe someone in the know can get the states updated that REALLLY have or don't have table NOW.

I called 3 locations form the list on the NEW USBA site, to ask if they had a 3 cushion billiard table. Two of them had to ask me twice what I was talking about, one actully said, "All of our tables have 4 cushions". I couldn't stop laghing for 5 minutes! :rotflmao1::rotflmao1::rotflmao1:

What a sad state of affairs!

I remember back in 2007 when I had 2 girls from my office and also my step-daughter and myself making phone calls to virtually every pool room in the country trying to find out if they had a 3-cushion table. We were able to add a great many rooms to the list, most of which only had 1 old Brunswick gathering dust in the corner of their room. We also deleted rooms from the list.

The only way to know for sure if all the rooms on the list are still up to date is to get on the phone and call them all. If there are any volunteers, let me know.

I also remember once asking someone if they had a 3-cushion table and they replied, "You mean the table is a triangle?" I laughed my ass off. Then I replied, "No, actually, it's more like a circle." I had fun.

Good points Jim... so let's read between the lines here...

The room list may have last been truly updated... well let's say "years ago". Thanks for that original work!
If the list is to be accurate today and in the future... or at least relevant to our members and guests... it must be consistently updated...
Closed rooms need to be marked as such and left in the system (category = Closed or no 3C table)
New rooms need to be added.
Table changes need to be made as well.
That all takes cooperation, coordination and work... someone has to call and report... someone has to do the data entry... don't duplicate the efforts on one... and miss another.

Hmmm... what's the over/under on getting any volunteers to help... non-members, members or BOARD members...

The critics turn into crickets when the work shows up...

The new site has a great feature... called JEvents Locations... the room lookup is searchable by name, city, state and grouped by category. The listing can contain the usual info (name, address, phone, tables) as well as pictures inside and out, google map with directions and even web links. It integrates with the tournament calendar. Nice stuff.

I made the first pass getting all the active rooms in where tournaments are being held today. Then I went through Paul Frankel's magazine and added as many rooms as I could figure had 3C tables and were active. Surely more to be done there. The last step is to re-do all that work that you did back in 2007 once again and make the calls on the old list... and again... and again... in order to stay up to date. Quarterly? Annually?

If we had some help... just think what a great resource that could be....

Yes Doug, you're right.

I do have to say that some of our members have been very helpful over the years. I have often received emails telling me of new rooms and room closings. Obviously we didn't get them all, but the members have helped alot.

We can simply give a shout out to all our members and non-members:

If you know of any new rooms with carom tables, tell us about it. Any room closings, tell us about it! Please!

Cue and Cushion overland, MO
Raytown Recreation. Raytown,MO
My house by appointment

Steve.
Try searching on MO. You get nothing or better yet try NJ, NY, IL
Unless you know the name you don't get the complet list. Maybe there is only 4 rooms in NY and nothing in IL. I know it's a pain to keep current but looks like rooms were removed without calling. Like the MO rooms. Gee wiz everyone in USBA knows the Brinks.

Thanks Tom for helping out.

The following have been added to the USBA list of 3-Cushion Rooms:

Cue and Cushion
Raytown Recreation

We also retired (sadly) Big Daddy's which will continue to appear but with a big ugly red message - no three cushion table.

In addition... we have enhanced the search feature. You can now search by Room Name, City or State (Spell all or a portion of any key word) We went away from state abbreviations because a search for partial words makes it easier for folks to find things.... and searching for "IL" would bring up every room with the word "Billiards" in it due to the partial match.

At the bottom of the list is a drop-down box where you can select the number of rooms to display on a page. One of the choices is "ALL"

If you click on the title of any column it will sort... first in ascending order... click again... then descending order.

So... it is possible to display all rooms on one page... then sort the list by state and see everything that way... or sort and display alphabetically by name... or grouped by city... well... you get the picture.

If you don't like your search criteria... click reset and the whole list comes back.

Clicking on any one room displays the room page which provides details including a map and pictures if we have them (hurry up - send pictures!) If there are upcoming or recently completed (within the month) tournaments at that location they will be displayed. Clicking on the tournament name will take you to the tournament listing where you can see all the details of the event that have been reported to USBA by the organizer. If the tournament is complete you can click on the results link and see the cross tables.

I think that about covers it... if I missed something... someone please remind me...

Here is the link to the room finder page. If you don't find your room listed... send me the details in a PM and I will add it.

Places or rooms with a table???

My feeling hurts every time I heard someone try to look for a place a 3c table so that he can play.... Where as where I live, southern CA, there maybe 50 plus tables within 30 munites of driving...

Thanks Doug, hope you didn't take this as an attack on your work. As the web master you know how things work. As a user with little imagination I didn't and couldn't, so just went to the old site to get it the old way. Looks like phone call from the OP are in order.

Anyway, thanks for the quick response. Just took a test drive. All is good except one thing. There's not enough 3C tables in the USA. And a lot less than I figured.

Illinois Billiard Club
Felipe Razon's private club
There's one in Decatur IL
Family Billiards?? Wichita, KS 3 tables I think
Huskie`s Den Northern Illinois University DeKalb
