player says to calcutta bidder he will lay down

what you forget about those leaches....is that alot of those leaches are backing the players in the tourny and after the tourny they are puting them into action with there money....yes there is a chance to make cash off the players skill however they are taking all risk with there cash....and really it is all about playing pool to win the cash...if you enjoy playing pool for the game such as i do....dont gamble by entering a tourny....

So let them stake the players in the tournament, and sit down and watch the events unfold.
Put the players in action, knock yourself out.
Just Leave the calcuttas out of it.

Don't gamble by entering a tourney? What the heck does THAT mean. Leave the gamblers in the tourney alone and go play whiffleball instead somewhere?

Believe me, i have nothing against action and gambling.
Empty out if you think you can make a score.

Just save the whole Boo Hoo/tissues response when a player doesn't care that you bought them and wants to forfeit for whatever reason, because contrary to what some people think, the buyers do not OWN any players.

The ONLY exception to this, is when the guy is both staking the player in the tournament, and buying him in the calcutta, and only under those circumstances, does the player become a slave to the owner, and only under those circumstances does the owner have the right to shoot the pool player in the face for dumping or forfeiting over something stupid.

SKIN THAT PLAYER ALIVE!!!

All other players should be left alone.

Calcutta bring more players and gamblers to the venue

:eek::eek:
superstar i agree with you at buy at your own risk.....but i dont fill that they should be cut out....there should be some kinda of mutual respect from buyer and player...and if one of them gets out of line then all deals are off....

Calcuttas bring more people in to the venue who spend money on food and drinks and sometimes spend the entire event sweating the action.

The calcutta generally pays more than the tournament, and as an individual that backs players in tournaments it makes it feasible to stake a couple players when there is a chance to make a few bucks.

If you are SO against player auctions? Have the tournament director throw you in the POOL, a group of players that do not get bid on and go on with your life.

I do not care if a player buys HALF or not and the better the player, the more I prefer they do not buy half themselves. Sometimes they cannot afford it and I tell them I will take care of them if they make me some money.

Too much said.

In theory, this is great. But in practice, you have to take the realistic view.
For example.
Just like when the local guy who never buys himself in the calcutta and who always goes into the "pool", who happens to play pretty good pool, draws one of the top guys in the tournament, and is on the verge of sparking them up.
Only to have the entire calcutta posse that bought the guy, SHARK THE EVERLIVING DAYLIGHTS out of local "pool" guy, and make it very difficult for them to win.

So when they go to extreme measures to protect their investment, i would rather that someone take them outside, beat the crap out of them, and toss them into the dumpster.

So bottom line, you are always gonna have players who don't care about the calcutta, and that is fine, but the instant the calcutta costs them in any way shape or form, is the time to END all calcuttas.

If the calcutta weren't there, that behavior would never happen at the hands of the people that buy players.

That's the point I'm trying to make. If I own a room, my only reason to have a tournament is to get bodies in my place. People that spend their money with me. The Calcutta's draw people. Calcutta's draw the players. The stronger the Calcutta, The stronger the draw is going to be. If a player doesn't want to particpate in the Calcutta, that's fine with me, but that player will not manipulate my calcutta by threatening a dump. That person will be asked to leave. I don't care if it's Johnny Archer, he would be gone. By entering a tournament, The players aren't entitled to anything other than the chance to compete on a level playing field with everyone else. That's it, If they don't agree with the calcutta's or don't like them because they are selling too high, then they can go somewhere else.

Totally disagree !

The white diamond tourney coming up down here & many view this tourney as the best in the country with Calcutta's pushing 50k..there's always a full 128 man bracket & 30 or 40 always on the waiting list...If Chris did away with the calcutta he might not even fill a 64 man bracket much less a 128 man....everybody's entitled to their own opinion but that's my 2 cents on the subject...being a stakehorse..the calcutta & the action is the only reason guys like myself go to these kind of events.

Lay down

I would have bought him anyway and told him to go ahead and lay down.
Is he really going to screw himself out of the tourney money to burn me on the calcutta? If he does he is only hurting himself.

Either way I win, if he gets in the money I make money, if he lays down I get to tell him it was worth every dime to watch him waste his entry and time.

Yep, I have seen it and was the person that a guy did it to. He thought we paid to much for him and didn't want to buy him self back so he shot him self out of the tournament. I happened to be the TD and told him if he couldn't shoot his best for the person who bought him, to not come back. To this day I don't think he has played in one of my tournaments. This is why Calcuttas are illegal in Iowa. They can be fixed. Butterflycues
