Players Jumping on the Table

I know that people complain about the relatively recent obnoxious move of tournament winners jumping on the tables. I had said that isn’t a new move, and I remember the guy who I thought was the first to do it. Maybe someone else did, but I don’t recall someone doing it before… Kim Davenport. 1994.

When they synchronized jumping up and down they appeared to be trying to destroy the table. They proved it was one tough table but I have to admit I wouldn't have minded the table breaking and a few shins getting barked and other minor injuries. Not wishing broken bones or anything like that but a few dings and scrapes would have taught some manners.

That celebration seemed prearranged. Perhaps I am wrong but as an American I was a bit embarrassed by the whole deal.

If I were embarrassed by the embarrassing stuff other Americans did....

there are not depths low enough to contain the shame

In this case the players were representing the USA. Always no shortage of Americans doing embarrassing things when a country is as big as ours but embarrassing behavior while representing our country is a different matter. No doubt not a big deal to nonpoolplayers but watching our Mosconi Cup team acting like that was almost as bad as watching an olympian act foolish from my viewpoint.

Interesting...I wonder what the table manufacturers think?
I guess it is a bit of a testament as to well built these tables are, when an entire team of nearly 1000 pounds is jumping up and down on the slate, but I guarantee you they would never do it on their own home table.

It’s just not a good example to set for young people, who might get the idea to try it after winning a tournament at a poolroom - which would likely not go over well!

Personally, I like the jumping on the table in celebration. Yes, it might compromise the equipment once in a blue moon, but showing onlookers how much a victory means to a player or team helps to sell pool. When the toughest titles are won and the biggest prize checks are earned, let the players express that it's a very special moment for them.

If the ritual of jumping onto the table ever starts showing up in lesser events, however, I'll probably disapprove.

One is bad enough. It’s outrageous when a whole team does it!
I'm not a fan of that reaction. No need for it. Its just a way of make a big deal, out of winning nowadays. Seems to be every matchroom event.
Could you imagine, someone doing that on a snooker table, after a big win.
They would probably get fined, for doing it!!

Or a 3 cushion event. Never happening there. You get in enough trouble leaving your chalk on the rail, even upside right,

It is a made for tv stupid idea. Next we will see the referees jumping up with the winner to raise their hand!!

To me it’s between the player and the owner of the table. I’m pretty sure Matchroom actively encourages it. It looks like a fun moment for TV. Not anything I concern myself with.
It looked scripted to me. I can help but think if people started jumping up on the table at least 1 of them would have been "wtf".

Omg.. players showing excitement after winning the biggest tournament of the year …how disgusting. 😂 I honestly can read this thread and see who exactly voted biden in the last election. It’s a child’s game fellows… who cares.

it has become a tradition. what MR or table manufacturer thinks at this point doesn't matter. earl started it when he won his last WC, then darren when he won in qatar. since then it has become a tradition. i'm not a huge fan of it. i'm more impressed with the approach of players such as reyes, stalev and ko ping chung. although lil ko is a bit too zen. quaalude zen almost
