Playing like a pirate!

As I get older the eyes are not as forgiving as they used to be. I have tried playing with glasses but I find it hard getting down on shots. I have contacts but I am near sighted so the correction of the contacts does not allow me to see things up close. So what is my fix? I have started to play with one contact in my left eye. I can see 4+ feet away in my left eye and see up close with my right eye.

Anyone else had to resort to this?

I have a special pair of contacts that I wear only for playing pool. I asked my eye doctor to prescribe a pair for "mid range", about 12-15 feet. Not quite for reading nor distance.

They don't work too well for driving, so I bring them with me and place them in at the room.

Works great.

My idea of playing like a pirate is hopping around on one leg. I've played a few racks this way and it's a blast. I haven't tried the contact trick but if you had an eyepatch, you could switch it back and forth depending on the distance.

These things are dorky looking as all hell, but a lot of nearsighted players are getting them. Two older guys who play a lot of 14.1 at my local room swear by them. They are available with progressive lenses so you can see both close and far away with them.

That vision mismatch cannot be good for your vision. I use contacts in both eyes but I think your prescription might be higher than mine if you cannot see things up close.

I made mine myself.... I used an old pair of frames, got a good prescription & now I have great pair of Pool Glasses.

They are jacked up on the nose piece & tilted out. When I am down on the shot, I am looking straight through the lens, no aberration in my vision. They made a tremendous difference.

Billiard Eyeglasses

I now supply progressive Billiard Eyeglasses that allow full vison from up close to the end of the table. they have become a very handy tool for many players with eyesite problems. I would be glad to discuss this with you.
