When playing the ghost in 9 ball are you allowed to count the 9 on the break.
And are you allowed to play combo's?

Yes 9 on break counts as win. Yes you can shoot combo's.
If you are playing to find out your rating (A,B,C, or D, then you keep shooting if you make the 9 early until you miss. Johnnyt

I see this question a lot; however, you should make it your own game to measure your progress, so it is your choice.

I used to play this a lot and I did not count 9 ball breaks or early 9's. I just broke, took ball in hand (unless I had a good shot on the one) and tried to run out. This way I could measure my progress over time.

As long as you are consistent and can measure progress, I say do whatever you want. This is a good tool to measure your individual progress.

Sure. It's a practice you routine you can do whatever you want.

My personal rules, BIH after the break, I have to run out the entire table for it to count as a win. I don't count scratches on the break as a loss, because it's a run out drill. If I want to practice the break, I'll practice the break.

I treat it as a learning tool for 9 ball specifically... so anything I can do to win 9 ball against a real human, I can do vs. the ghost and it counts. That f#$@er has enough advantages without me spotting it advantages I'd never give real human (like no combos).

combos yes. on the snap imo is all up to you. if you're betting someone you can beat the ghost than yeah you'll count the ones on the break but if you're just practicing then i wouldn't bother counting them.

Doing whatever you think is cool is probably not the answer you are looking for so I will chime in with 9s on the break and combos DO count as wins.

I think playing the ghost for practice is in the top 5 percent of practice drills because it forces you to focus when you are shooting by yourself because if you miss you have to rerack and move the coin. Plus lots of breaking practice. Plus lots of positional practice which is more important than ball pocketing imo.

There are many varations of the ghost that you can use as stated above so far. I break and don't take BIH if I can see the lowest ball on the table and have a pocket for it. Mostly now I play the 9-ball ghost w/o bih. This trains you to control the QB and the spread of the balls more.

Keep score of your scores against the ghost on the different ways you play it. It can tell you what part of your game needs the most work.

Switch off from the 9-ball ghost to the 8-ball ghost to the 10-ball ghost as you get better. You can also play the 11 through 15-ball ghost. Good luck on your ghost busting. Johnnyt
