Playing With 64" Cue

Since Earl and Shane are playing with 64" cues I'm hearing more and more people are trying it. I get away with it because I play only on 7' table for the last 5 years or so. I've been using the same cue and extention for 3 years now. I use it because I'm old and can't get in some positions I use to get into. Even in the bedroom. If you play on 9' tables and don't have a perfectly straight stroke, I wouldn't recommend it. If you have a little side to side or up and down movement in your tip from your backhand it is going to move more with the longer cue. I'm pretty sure I'm right, but I'd like an instructor to yes or no on this? Johnnyt

You don't need an instructor to tell you that you can or can't use a 64" cue.Chris Bartram uses a long cue as his normal playing cue. Obviously Earl does. In the last few months, several AZ posters have said they play with an extension in 100% of the time. I started about a month ago and I might never go back. The reach for a short guy like me is just an amazing advantage.

It took a few practice warm up shots to get used to it.

You didn't answer the question. Johnnyt

I'm pretty sure there was no question in the OP

If you move the back of a 58" cue 1/2" and the back of a 64" cue the same, won't the tip placement move more with the 64" cue. I'm probably not asking it right. Johnnyt

Yes, but I hold the cue at the same distance from the tip regardless of the length.

So do Earl and Shane. They hold the cue approximately 58" from the tip either with short or long cue. I'm closer to 50".

Do you hold the cue at 64"?

Freddie <~~~ that's a question

You're right. I hold it about the same place as I did when it was 58". See, I knew it was possible that I could be wrong for the first time this year.. Thank you for clearing that up for me. Johnnyt

I think your bridge length has more to do with what you're trying to convey here, Johnny. The longer the bridge length...the more noticeable wobble (at the point-of-contact on the cue ball with the tip) you're going get if your back hand movement is not smooth and steady.

Good. I bridge real close to the CB on most shots. Thank you. Johnnyt

I had a 63" custom cue made and I just loved it. I'm sorry to say both shafts warped so I seldom use it now. I'm quite sure if you hold a standard length cue and a longer cue the same your stroke will not change.
