Playing with Fire? Raffling Cues?

I know I will probably get a lot of flack about this, but raffles are only legal in the U.S. for charitable events and donations. Enough said.

Just like poker is illegal outside of casinos but guess what there are card rooms all over the country. Enough said.

It Is A Charitable Event, Getting A Cue To Someone Who Normally Wouldn't Be Able To Afford The Whole Price For A New Custom. Great Gamble Imho...js

damn good point.

Yep, you are right. In Denver, they only busted about 8 of them in one fell swoop and they were not publicly advertised like these forums. You had to know someone to get in.

And to that, I say yeah right, the charity is supposed to be the one receiving the $$$$. Good try.

I'm done here. I raised the point, you guys can defend it all you want.

You failed to see the point im not defending it, im simply saying its going to happen regardless and as for them swooping up poker rooms id be willing to bet that more than half of them that literally reopned within a month.

I'm not taking any side, just want to add a point. Any chances sold across state lines involves the Federal Gov. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if it happens more than a couple times they can yell "rico act".

If you want to raffle cues, why not do like the poker rooms and take it offline, thereby not exposing AZBilliards to the possibility of facilitation charges for enabling blatant gambling. Set up your private pm network and go for it.

Personally, I think it is kind of an unfair non-competitive practice of trying to "sell" a cue for the price you want but can't get on the open sale market. Kinda cheezy to me, but different strokes for different folks.

I have no cues for sale, so it doesn't hinder any of my sales, but if you are raffling a cue similar to one someone else is posting for sale, you are cutting into their potential market share and not competing fairly on price with them. What happens when someone has a major dispute about the condition or some other issue with a cue and they demand financial satisfaction to the tune of the total value of the rafflle or they turn you in for holding an illegal raffle? This is why I say it is playing with fire. Everything is documented right out in the open. Bookies take bets from cops, but they don't hang a sign outside their legitimate business advertising place your sports bets here.

I see nothing wrong with these raffles. If the said person or site was making a ton of money off of it I'd say there is room to worry.

I do not believe that poker is illegal outside casinos. Here in New Jersey I know of several legal poker rooms. I know of at least one in a pool room. As long as the house is just charging an entrance fee and not taking a percentage it is legal. The Joss tour donates a cue to each pool room at each tourny. The pool rooms then raffle off the cue to get back some of the money might lose for table time. This raffle may not be legal, but it is only done once every several months. I can't see the police spending any time on this.

You would think the police have better things to do than pay attention to something so petty, but, dangle it long enough and some little rat will come along and snitch it off.

We were having calcuttas down here in Texas and another room owner snitched us off to the TABC and now they are in jepordy everywhere in the state. He did it simply because he was getting no business in his shithole of a pool room.

This is somewhat of a moot point given that ppl openly gamble on the forum on upcoming high profile matches.

Yeah

Busting small raffles is right up there with checking for expired bicycle licenses ....

You guys have such a F-ed government when it comes to things like that. They don't give a crap here in Canada. I wouldn't try a poker room here, but cue raffles and calcuttas no problem. Win a pool tournament for 5000-1000000$ (if we ever had one) keep all the money... win the lotto keep all the money.

I watched Sicko, a documentary about health care in the U.S, do you really need health insurance (like car insurance) to go to the hospital. They showed people with no coverage going to good hospitals and they got put into a cab and sent to some county hospital across town. They showed people that worked at 911 ground zero not qualify for health insurance so they couldn't get any treatment. They lost their jobs and everything. Here it is free for every Canadian at any and all hospitals. If you spent a year in a hospital, Free! We don't have health insurance (unless traveling outside country) just a Canadian medicare card. This is government issued. Parents fill out a form when you are born and the card is issued for life. Also people moving to this country have full coverage once they become a Canadian citizen.

I wondered if that was true or not... seems strange for the riches country in the world to not offer medicare. Those 911 workers went to Cuba and got free treatment and many of the pills that where prescribed they didn't even need. One women was spending 400$ a month for inhalers and bought the same thing in Cuba for 40 cents.

Crazy stuff if true!

Sicko is a propaganda movie. Take it for what its worth. NOTHING....

When they raffle off the cues or any item they sell tickets to the value of the item. The raffles they are holding total more than the actual value, so, what they are doing is technically illegal.
Not that I care
