Hemicudas has been trying to find out who this player is for a long time. This picture was taken in 1987 at the Steve Gumphrey Memorial Tourney.

(And to all the women looking, yeah he's hot!:D )

It sure looks like Ray Suden. The only problem his hair is dark and I always knew Ray as more of a blonde, but Ray was a looker, a dresser, a hustler and a ladies man so I would not be surprised if his hair was dyed at that time. I am almost positive that is him. Lived in California for years and in the Mass. area. for some time. Hell of a player.

It looks like Billy Ray Suden to me. I don't know if he was ever that stocky though. I didn't meet the guy until the 90's some time.

Thanks for reminding me of his name we used also. "Billy Ray" is also what we called him. One of my sons reminded me a few minutes ago before you posted. He got hustled out of $500 when he first came back to town a couple of years ago. I have known him since 1970 or so. He disappeared for years and I heard to Mass. He was back around and playing again waiting for an insurance settlement. Him and his Dad were great father and son team. He might have been that buffed at times in his life. He was a surfer and a big guy. There can't be two guys that are that cool looking. lol. Another hint is the gold chain. Billy Ray always wore lots of jewelry.

i don't think so

fellas,
I don't think that is Ray Sudan..I've known the guy since we were kids in the bay area..I have seen him in the 70's, 80's,90's;He has never looked like that ,although there are similarities..I've been in phone contact with him the past few months and he did say i would'nt recognize him..So who knows??

If you have known the guy so long why do you not know how to spell his last name? It is Suden. I think Sudan is a country. LOL.
The time frame and age looks right but his dark hair may prove it is not him but it sure looks like him. Maybe Hemicudus can shed light on whether this guy he is trying to identify was a player. Ray is a player. He seems to have disappeared again though.

OK, nfty9er, I will post the entire photo again. As you can see, all have been IDed except this guy. He did play in the tournament, held in my home town of Jackson, Miss. Reed Pierce did not play in this tourney because he was having problems with the owner of the room, Graham Earl (pictured), at the time. I was living in the Chicago area at the time but other Jackson locals have told me they remember the guy playing but none can remember his name. I truly hate to leave just one name off this great photo so any assistance you guys can give is greatly appreciated. This photo is huge. I had to lower the quality a ton to get it to fit the 100KB size limit here on AZ. If anyone would like an ultra high quality copy of this photo you can email me at hemicudas@southernbilliards.com.

I think you are speaking of Billy Ray Suda who is from the Providence, RI area and no, I don't believe that is Billy Ray it the photo.., In the past, Billy Ray Suda was active here in the Northeast from the late 90's until about maybe 2002.., I recall seeing him at several Joss events during those years.., One that comes to mind was at TJ's in Waterville, Maine but I've seen Billy Ray many times in events over the years at Snooker's in Providence, Rhode Island Billiards, Mike X's Accu-Billiards in New Bedford, MA and Country Club USA in Chelmsford, MA.., He is also listed on the BCA Men's Master List as player Billy Ray Suda.., Last I heard Billy Ray was working at one of the Connecticut casinos but I don't know what he is doing these days.., I think Joe Tucker and Mike Webb knew Billy Ray pretty well.., or they surely know him better than I.

Some more clues

On the players list are six more names that are not in the picture. Kevin Blackwell, Larry Farmer, James Pierce, Bob Johnson(if its the one from Richmond, Ky- its not him), Marvin Efferson, Thomas Almond.

You definitely have no room to brag.

And the Raiders don't? That's a laugh. What did that have to do with anything. It was just ironic I spelled it right in my thread but you decided to change it. Makes it appear your full of shit. Do you want me to kiss your ass before or after I kick it? Buddy

I knew the Gump well. Great guy and a damn good player. I also knew Billy Ray. He came thru my poolroom in the 70's and we played a Race To Eleven for $200. I came back from 9-2 to beat him 11-10. He was a hot sucker.

That just doesn't look like him. I don't recall him with a mustache and his hair was kinda sandy brown, not dark. And that just doesn't look like his face. Almost, but not quite.

There was a rumor that circulated in the 80's and 90's that he was dead. And then he reappeared in the late 90's back in Providence where he grew up. Kind of a mystery man. A real hustler though, laying low and looking for a mark.

I love that photo though and would love a copy.

Kevin Blackwell

There is a good chance this guy is Kevin Blackwell. Do any of you guys know him or what he looks like?

Brandon Ashcraft

Brandon Ashcraft knows Kevin Blackwell quite well. Can any of you guys get in touch with Brandon to confirm or deny whether the guy in the photo is Kevin Blackwell or not. It would be appreciated. Thank you.

Definetely not Kevin Blackwell from Michigan

Kevin Blackwell could be the right name, but it isn't Kevin Blackwell from Michigan. At that time, he would have been in his mid teens. It could just be someone from that part of the country with the same name.
Good luck with your search.
