So just got a new set of the basic aramith balls. Should I put a layer of polish on them before playing. Would that help cleaning them when the time comes?when

I did search forum but didn't find anything on topic.

I would not. Anything that says polish, is an abrasive. I would use a cleaner only when needed.

Maybe not brand new out of the box but after just a few hours of play you'll have to do it anyway. You don't really put a layer of polish "on them" -- you use polish to clean them up. Do it every few hours of play.

Thx, just put together a polisher/cleaner.

This one's easy ----just use a product dedicated to cleaning and maintaining phenolic resin balls and you cannot go wrong. Sparingly of course. A little (very very little) goes a long way to keeping your ball set(s) consistently clean and behaving accordingly. I'd recommend Aramith Ball Cleaner.

I'd just wipe em once in awhile with a dampened clean lint free cotton cloth. The outer surface of your new ball set will keep it shine for years in a home environment.

Every few hours? Doesn't that seem excessive?:p

It would not be considered unusual or excessive in the billiards world. At many billiard places they clean the balls and vacuum the table after every game. Sang Lee was one of the ones who really encouraged this and he made it the standard practice at SL Billiards, and then Carom Cafe, and it spread to other places.

I don't now what those places do as far as the frequency cleaning their pool balls. My guess would be that they at least clean the cue ball.

I was just kidding. Lou commented on the frequency of people cleaning balls in another thread.

Clean, polished balls find the pockets better than dirty balls. Especially, of course, sliding down the rails. I use the Aramith polish for mine but there are some types of car wax that can also be used. However, I don't recommend car wax on the CB as it can cause the CB to get spotty.

You don't need to clean them as often as some on here say. Just use a clean dry towel and wipe them off fairly regularly in between polishings.

I appreciate ur comments, thought of quoting a couple but they kinda took care of themselves lol.

Clean balls is the ultimate goal, in a way that does not mess w the right/natural state of condition a ball "should" be in. Cause I wonder if the stuff I have, through my work, is the rt stuff to put on balls. I will guarantee this, it will put a shine on balls like nothing else, but I know this doesn't make it rt. Its a manipulation of friction.

I know the ball cleaner they produce would be the rt stuff, just not sure I need to buy just that.

Aside from cleaner/polisher debate, which I'm sure has been beaten to death here.

The fricken new balls r sweet!

I've played on diamond tables w the balls I have, more than likely better. Brunswick nines w same balls or better(pool halls), a bar that bought new aramiths every start of fall pool league.

When it happens on ur table, its a new table.

I live in MI and visited Seyberts. That was an experience and a pocket emptier, but they did me rt and I'm happy, cheers!
