As the op for this thread, I have participated in political conversations in here but quickly get discouraged by the large divide between opinions. Nowadays politics is like poison it just destroys the fabric of whatever it touches, including websites and forums like this, all the way up to relationships in friends and family. Why it is allowed on here is beyond me, as it sullys the integrity of these forums, imo. The vast majority of people who responded to the poll in this thread want politics gone, including myself. You asked to fire away, in ways to make it better, well this is a way that the majority of responders have suggested. This is a very nice forum with a lot of topics that I like, but if I could find it's equal somewhere else without politics and where it would not be tolerated I would probably leave this place and go to those forums.
I'm sorry to hear that. Unless the day comes that Mike bans politics in NPR, the only suggestion I can honestly offer, is continue to browse/participate in the sub-forums that you enjoy, and avoid NPR. Participation in that particular sub-forum is voluntary.
Best regards

I don’t mind the NPR section existing but I wish it was excluded from search results.
Admin can probably set it that way. I agree there's no reason for NPR threads to ever show up in a billiards related search. I know on forums I've run that sections could be omitted from being indexed in the search cache.

If you are not logged in, or you are not a member, it doesn't appear in the search results to the best of my knowledge.
I tested the theory. I logged out, and could not see the NPR sub-forum listed as an option. I believe that this was something Mike decided to do when he revived the topic of politics.
👍

I go on a few forums/chats: cigars, golf, hi-end air guns, WW2 stuff and this is by far the most entertaining/diverse. Pool players tend to be a tad abrasive/crusty/opinionated and i dig that. Never a dull moment on AZB, you just a need thick skin to allow malcontent shit-slingers like me to not bother you. I just have an old, highly-tuned bullshit detector and i'll tell it like i see it. Sue me. ;)
One of the reasons I am still here. I joined because I had a tech question about my recently acquired 9' GC2.....and I quickly found the answer! After that, well.....I can only have so many chats about aiming systems, cloth color, pool balls, and how bad my game really is.... 😭 I love looking at cues though.... Pool cues are some of the most fascinating forms of functional art in existence....and I never get tired of seeing them.......but that aside, what keeps me here is NPR. We are a cantankerous & abrasive bunch....I fit right in....and batting it around in NPR is an absolute joy with you guys even if we disagree. :)

Rock on AZB & NPR!

We have some really great replies. Politics does not belong on AZB....... aside from that who are you voting for and why 😂

Women in pool have made huge strides in progress from where billiards was when it started.

The WPBA is a huge success for women internationally. The ability for cue athletes (female) to travel and meet people from around the world is what the WPA did with the WPBA.

As for the male politics it seems male players have less and less control over which events to play and who says they can play. This is an inference based on the wide bans against mostly men and mostly Asian male players.

Players don't vote therefore they do not matter organizationally.

I voted in the poll and here is my 2 cents. If it is pool politics, or an issue that effects pool rooms, then I feel it should be allowed in the main forum. If it is just the normal politics, then no. That is what the NPR forums are for. Non Pool Related. I mean its pretty simple and straight forward.

I think the subject has to with Political politic threads. I think.

I do not frequent NPR, but here is what I see. Much of the discourse in NPR is an embarrassment. Mods could control it but do not seem to care. There seem to be "pets". I am glad it is over there and not here, but it tries to leak in.

Thanks for the tip. Although I’ll still say it’s annoying to need to log out before searching if you don’t want a bunch political drivel noising up the search results.

I think that the NPR is a good idea for those that need to comment on such things- I rarely look at it and doubt that I commented on it.
I know that a few times I made some political comments on this forum - I should not have done that - but as humans and as polarized as politics are today - we sometimes knee jerk with comments that do not belong here. Some people knee jerked right back at me for my comments - so they showed their human side as well.
Agree that politics do not belong in this forum.

Let's keep this thread going...I'll keep the idiots off of the main thread. Oh, this is the main thread.

Part of the issue is when folks do a search, half the responses that come back are politically flavored. ...
When I search in the main forum for something that's likely to be there, I set "This Forum" in the where to search choice.

I am occasionally bothered by the idiot posts if I don't restrict it. I see less of that if I choose the search words carefully.

But I agree with the others. NPR should be excluded from searches unless requested explicitly.
